Basketball Recap: Mollie Griffin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Loyalton over Quincy

If Loyalton was feeling good fresh off their 56-20 takedown of Paradise Adventist Academy last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Loyalton Grizzlies fell 48-40 to the Quincy Trojans on Thursday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 49-27 back in November.

Several Grizzlies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mollie Griffin, who posted 18 points. Those 18 points gave Griffin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Catherine Petterson, who earned six points along with ten rebounds and five assists.

Quincy found their leader in sophomore Skylar McCarthy, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 boards set a new season-high mark for McCarthy. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelby Nussle, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards.

With the defeat, Loyalton broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-3. As for Quincy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Portola the next time they take the court. Loyalton will head out to face Portola at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Quincy will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
