On Saturday, Pembroke Hill lost to Gretna on the road by a decisive 66-51 margin. While losing is never fun, Pembroke Hill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 118th in Missouri, while Gretna is ranked tenth in Nebraska).
Leading Gretna to victory were Alec Wilkins and Landon Pokorski. Wilkins scored 17 points along with two steals, while Pokorski scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. It was the first time this season that Pokorski pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Joey Vieth, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Pembroke Hill has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Gretna, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 16-4.
Pembroke Hill will be playing at home against Rock Bridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gretna will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Lincoln East at 7:30 p.m. on February 13th. Gretna knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully Lincoln East likes a good challenge.
