The University Christian Christians are taking a road trip to square off against the Sandalwood Saints at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. University Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
University Christian's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when Mount Dora Christian Academy hitters got past them. The Christians fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 17-16 on Saturday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (12), the Christians still had to take the loss.
Bo Wilson was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one triple. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb Hammond, who scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Sandalwood fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against First Coast on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Buccaneers by a score of 2-1.
Sandalwood also got a good showing from Bane Barker, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Barker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sandalwood saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Preston Cox, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
University Christian moved to 15-7 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Sandalwood, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. University Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sandalwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
