Danville has gone 9-1 against Champaign Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Vikings will square off against the Maroons at 4:30 p.m. Danville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Danville came up short against Mahomet-Seymour on Monday, falling 10-1.
Deana Linares spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and four unearned) runs on 14 hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Danville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kealee Alyea, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Champaign Central unfortunately witnessed the end of their 13-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Normal Community by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Maroons have suffered since April 16th.
Haley Helm was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Helm was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Grace Bandy made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. Kaitlyn Helm was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Danville now has a losing record of 11-12. As for Champaign Central, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 22-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Danville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Champaign Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Danville suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Champaign Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
