Hoover (Ala.) scored 21 points in the second quarter to secure a big 38-7 victory over Bessemer City (Bessemer, Ala.) on Saturday.
The Buccaneers rushed for three touchdowns on the ground during the quarter, including one by
Connor Short.
After taking the lead on a rushing touchdown in the second quarter, Hoover led 28-7 at the half.
HHS expanded its lead to 31 points entering the fourth quarter. The Buccaneers scored two times in the third, including once on a field goal by
Hunter Schmith.
With the win Hoover extended its winning streak to seven games. HHS defeated the Rebels 35-15 last week.
The Buccaneers' most effective player was Short. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown and kicked one extra point.
The Tigers' lone touchdown came on a pass in the first quarter.
Bessemer City came in giving up 7.4 points per game this season. Led by
Marlon Humphrey, Hoover came into the game allowing 7.5 points per game.
The loss comes after Bessemer City defeated Woodlawn 20-6 last week.
In a 6A Region 5 game next week Hoover (7-0) takes on Hillcrest, and Bessemer City (3-3) will go up against Jackson-Olin also in a 6A Region 5 game.
