No. 2 St. John's prevails against No. 3 Bishop McNamara in high school girls basketball showdown

Super sophomore scores 28 points to lead Cadets past WCAC challenger.

The second meeting of the season between Washington Catholic Athletic Conference powers No. 2 St. John's (Washington, D.C.) and No. 3 Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.) went much the same as the first did last month.

Another win for St. John's (25-1) and another big performance from super sophomore guard Azzi Fudd.

In the first meeting back on Jan. 22, Fudd scored 18 points as the Cadets prevailed in overtime 67-65. This time around she poured in 28 as St. John's took care of business 64-58.

A third meeting could be in store during the WCAC tournament later this month.

Future Mississippi State Bulldog Aliyah Matharu, a 5-foot-7 senior guard, paced Bishop McNamara (23-2) in the scoring column with 20 points.

The only loss of the season for national championship hopeful St. John's came against No. 1 Miami Country Day (Miami, Fla.) on Dec. 20 at the Nike Tournament of Champions.
