Emma Baker of
Rancho Christian (Temecula, Calif.)
has been a record breaker ever since she began kicking for the Eagles
three years ago. Now, the junior has been recognized as the first female
ever to be chosen for an All-Southern Section football team.
A first team kicker on the All-Southern Section Division 13 team, which was released by the section on Monday, Baker is believed to be the first female chosen to the teams, which have been selected every year dating back to the 1930s.
Baker had a record-breaking season for the Eagles, scoring 99 kicking points on 75-of-78 extra points and 8-of-10 field goals. Her longest field goal this year was 40 yards. The 99 kicking points is the most ever scored in a single season by a female in U.S. history, according to the website
luckyshow.org, which tracks points scored by female kickers.
Rancho Christian (14-2) won the Southern Section Division 13 championship and it also won the CIF Class 6AA state championship.
For her three-year career, Baker has 208 points. That total breaks the career state record for a female kicker of 202, set by Jennifer Lawson of Bradshaw Christian (Sacramento).
She is within striking distance of Dyllanne Deischler's career scoring total, which is believed to be the all-time national record for a female. While at Linton-Stockton (Ind.) from 2009 to 2012, Deischler had 244 points on 223 career extra points and seven field goals.
