Son of former NFL receiver goes up high in corner of end zone to deflate Palisades defense. It sort of resembled "The Catch," one of the NFL's most famous plays, where San Francisco 49ers' quarterback Joe Montana scrambled to his right and under heavy duress and found a leaping Dwight Clark in the back right corner of the end zone to defeat the Dallas Cowboys 28-27 in the 1981 NFC title game.
It jump-started the 49ers' reign of Super Bowl titles.
This was a Southern California high school football game in 2017, but it also had some NFL roots.
Chad Johnson Jr., the son of former NFL receiver Chad Johnson, made a leaping catch of a
Dion Moore pass — see video —Friday night with 2:45 left of a 34-28 win for
Venice (Los Angeles, Calif.) over arch-rival Palisades. The catch put Venice (6-3) up 34-25, Palisades kicked a field goal, recovered an on-sides kick but finished one-yard short on a tackle by
Arlandus Triplett on the
game's last play.
Johnson, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound sophomore, entered the game with 15 catches for 296 yards and three touchdowns.
