The high school football season in South Carolina came to a close over the weekend.
Dutch Fork (Irmo) was among the victors, beating No. 8
Fort Dorchester (North Charleston) 47-10 in the Class AAAAA state championship game. That victory helped propel the Silver Foxes to the No. 1 ranking in the final South Carolina MaxPreps Top 25.
Dutch Fork (14-1) capped an impressive season by piling up 529 yards in the championship game. Senior quarterback
Aliam Appler completed all seven pass attempts for 179 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Jarvis Green tallied 241 rushing yards on 23 carries and three receptions for 49 yards and four total touchdowns.
The Silver Foxes averaged 44.5 points per contest this season led by Green, who rushed 232 times for 2,272 yards and hauled in 36 receptions for 527 yards with 39 total touchdowns. Appler completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,698 yards and ran for 522 yards while accounting for 31 total touchdowns.
Coming in at No. 2 was Class AAAA state champion
South Florence (Florence), which finished undefeated (15-0) after a win over No. 5
Northwestern (Rock Hill) 57-30. Senior quarterback
Lanorris Sellers completed 10-of-14 passes for 260 yards and five touchdowns, while adding 192 rushing yards and an additional score in the blowout win.
Class AAA state champion
Beaufort (13-1) finished the season ranked No. 11 in the state after a 41-31 state title game victory over
Powdersville (Greenville) and Class AA state champion
Abbeville (13-2) ended the year ranked No. 23 in the state after a 35-20 victory over
Oceanside Collegiate Academy (Mt. Pleasant).
