Arch Manning of
Newman (New Orleans, La.), the No. 1 high school football recruit in the Class of 2023, ended months of speculation Thursday when he announced via social media that he's committed to the University of Texas.
Manning has drawn interest from colleges since his freshman year, first because of his famous surname, then later for his ability.
The nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning and grandson of Archie Manning chose Texas and quarterback-friendly coach Steve Sarkisian over Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Clemson and Virginia. Sarkisian has coached quarterbacks like Tua Tagovailoa, Mac Jones and Matt Leinart in his stints at Alabama and USC.
The Longhorns are already loaded at the position with Quinn Ewers, the top quarterback from the Class of 2021, Maalik Murphy and Hudson Card in the fold. Ewers, who left high school early to enroll at Ohio State and take advantage of NIL opportunities, transferred to Texas last year.
Entering his senior year, Manning has already thrown for 5,731 yards and 72 touchdowns in 27 career games. He's also rushed for 671 yards and 17 touchdowns.
"This all unfolded authentically and organically," Isidore Newman head coach Nelson Stewart told 247Sports. "He's a super special kid and I'm confident in his decision.
"I'm excited he can smile and have a great senior year. It's certainly been a journey unlike any other."
Arch's dad Cooper backed up Stewart's assessment 100 percent.
"Arch is excited and his parents are warn out," he texted MaxPreps.
