On Tuesday, Feb. 18, MaxPreps went to northwestern Arkansas to congratulate
Bentonville High School on its fourth state title and first since 2010. As a part of the 9th annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the National Guard, Bentonville High School held a ceremony at halftime of the boys basketball game.
Bentonville High School was ranked No. 95 in the country out of over 16,000 schools by MaxPreps. The players were excited to receive the award knowing how much work they put into this season. This is Bentonville's second time being honored on the Tour of Champions, having previously won the award in 2008.
The Tigers' season did not start off smoothly, as they lost two of the first three games. They definitely ended strong though, winning 10 straight including a huge victory over Cabot High School in the championship. The school built a new stadium in 2005 and winning this title is a great way to assert its dominance in Tiger Stadium. While MaxPreps and the Arkansas Army National Guard were setting up, it was evident how much high school athletics means to Bentonville. The stands were packed for the presentation.
At halftime, Colonel Troy Galloway of the Arkansas Army National Guard gave a riveting speech about how much the team meant to the community and how he saw a lot of qualities that the National Guard stands for in the team. Colonel Galloway then presented coach Lunney with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. The players then came out on the floor during the presentation and surrounded their coach and the Minuteman trophy. They were ecstatic to be receiving such a high honor. This is another trophy to add to their all ready impressive collection.
Congratulations to Bentonville High School Tigers and we hope to see you on the Tour of Champions again next year!
