Names like Ryan Fitzpatrick, Joe Germaine, Brett Hundley, Rodney Peete, Tim Rattay and Danny White all played high school ball in the Grand Canyon State.
But none of those future college and professional standouts threw for as many yards as
Pinnacle (Phoenix) senior
Spencer Rattler.
On Pinnacle's opening drive against O'Connor (Phoenix) on Friday night, Rattler surpassed the career state record of 10,489 yards set by Emanuel Gant of Tempe between 2011-14. Gant and Rattler are the only two signal callers in Arizona history to top 10,000 yards.
Against O'Connor, the future Oklahoma Sooner threw for three touchdown passes, ran for two more and even caught a pass for a score as the Pioneers cruised to a 52-23 win. Yardage totals were not available at press time.
Making the evening all the more special, Rattler's achievement came on his 18th birthday.
A four-year starter, Rattler entered the game with 10,462 yards to go along with 107 touchdown passes. He threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 45 touchdowns in 13 games as a junior and is on pace to eclipse those numbers this fall.
247Sports has Rattler pegged as the No. 21 overall prospect in the Class of 2019 and the top quarterback.
