With COVID-19 wreaking havoc on football schedules throughout the 2020-21 school year, and possibly doing further damage in 2021-22, it would seem unlikely that career passing records would fall during the ensuing season. But that's not the case on Georgia and Indiana where a pair of quarterbacks have state career touchdown records within their reach.
Gunner Stockton of Rabun County (Tiger, Ga.) entered his senior season with 122 career touchdown passes and
already has seven in two games so far this year. That total puts him within 32 touchdown passes of tying the state mark of 161 set by Trevor Lawrence of Cartersville from 2014-17. That number seems well within reach since he threw 43 touchdown passes as a sophomore and 45 last year.
Brady Allen of Gibson Southern (Fort Branch, Ind.), meanwhile, began his senior season with 91 career touchdowns. He's thrown nine in two games for an even 100. That puts him 42 touchdowns away from tying Jake Purichia of Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter for the state record. That total would be more of a stretch for Allen, who threw just 31 touchdowns as a junior and a sophomore.
MaxPreps has put together a list of the career touchdown pass leaders in every state. State records were set in Delaware and Wyoming last year. CJ Henry of Hodgson Vo-Tech tied the Delaware mark with 89 career touchdowns while Graedyn Buell blew away the Wyoming record with 94 touchdown passes.
Sources for the list include state association record books, Texas High School Football History, MaxPreps leaderboards, Connecticut High School Record Book by Gerry DeSimas, and Georgia High School Football Historians
