Romeo Langford committed Monday evening to Indiana, representing a major recruiting win for second-year Hoosiers head coach Archie Miller.
The announcement was a big attraction in New Albany as fans began lining up hours in advance to secure a seat in the gym. Those in attendance had to be patient as four speakers and a video tribute preceded the pick. Over 10,500 viewers tuned in to a live stream via the
Indianapolis Star.
Langford, a 6-foot-5 guard, is one of the most celebrated high school players in state history. He led New Albany to a state title as a sophomore and the Bulldogs went 77-7 during his final three years in the program.
As a senior, the new Hoosier pledge averaged 35.5 points, 9.9 rebounds and and 3.7 assists per game. He filled gyms across the state beyond capacity all season long, including over 8,000 for his final game – a buzzer-beater loss to Warren Central of Indianapolis in the state semifinals.
Langford finished fourth all-time on Indiana's career scoring list with 3,002 points. That included a 63-point eruption this season against Jennings County (North Vernon).
Langford is pegged as the No. 6 overall recruit in the Class of 2018 by
247Sports. He chose the Hoosiers over Kansas and Vanderbilt.
