Video: Xcellent 25 Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard - Oct. 17For the second-consecutive week, the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard stay exactly the same.
Twenty-three of the 25 were in action, and only one game was decided by less than 10 points.
And, speaking of that game, it was one of the craziest we have seen in 2016.
No. 22 Warren Central thought it had just went 0-2 vs. Cincinnati teams, as St. Xavier (Cincinnati) was up 18-13 with no time on the clock. But thanks to some St. X players for running onto the field before the final tackle was made, the Warriors were given one last chance from the Bombers' 42-yard line after there was a illegal participation penalty called on St. Xavier.
On the final play of the game, senior quarterback
Zach Summeier rolled to his right and chucked the ball off one foot and found his 4-star sophomore wide receiver
David Bell at the 1-yard line and fought his way into the end zone to pull off the 19-18 road victory in one of the most bizarre games of the season.
The state of California was very impressive this past weekend also, as the four teams ranked in the Top 25 won by a combined 146 points.
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) have proven to be in their own class in the Trinity league and we get to find out who the top dog is this Friday night.

1. (1 last week) Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), 8-0The last time the Gaels lost a game, current Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon was managing the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2013 American League Division Series. They have won 47 games in a row, currently the third-longest active winning streak among all 11-man football teams. Win No. 47 was no problem for Kenny Sanchez and his boys as they shut out Clark (Las Vegas) 58-0. Against three Nevada opponents this year the Gaels have outscored them 169-13.
Next game: Friday at Desert Oasis (Las Vegas)
2. (2) IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), 6-0Another week and another impressive win for IMG Academy. This time it was a 38-0 road win against previously unbeaten Oxbridge Academy (West Palm Beach, Fla.). The Ascenders are easily one of the most talented teams in the country and 4-star quarterback
Kellen Mond has proven to be one of the best players in all of high school football in 2016. On defense, 2017 Alabama commit
Dylan Moses and 2017 LSU commit
Grant Delpit have arguably been the most impressive defensive tandem in the country. Next week IMG Academy faces another big-time tandem in
Shaun Wade and
D.J. Matthews and Trinity Christian Academy on ESPN2.
Next game: Friday at Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fla.)
3. (3) DeSoto (Texas), 7-0DeSoto continues to show it has one of the most explosive offenses in the country, as the Eagles eclipsed the 50-point mark for the third time this year after beating Irving (Texas) 51-7. The Eagles had three players rush for 100-plus yards as
Kelan Walker,
Jamonne Williams and
Richie Washington Jr combined for 328 yards rushing and four scores.
Next game: Friday at Duncanville (Texas)
4. (4) Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), 7-0The Trinity league is regarded as the toughest in the country, but that hasn't been the case for Mater Dei in its first two league games. The Monarchs have outscored Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) 118-28. The No. 1 pro style quarterback in the Class of 2019,
JT Daniels, has put up video game numbers through his first seven games - 2,640 yards and 40 touchdowns. He has thrown for at least 300 yards and five touchdowns in every game this year. The Monarchs have had some very talented teams over the last 30 years but this one ranks right up there with any of them. The true test comes this Friday against No. 7 St. John Bosco in one of the biggest games on the calendar in 2016.
Next game: Friday at St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.)
5. (5) DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), 8-0 DeMatha has now won 13 games in a row and its 23-13 win at Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) had to feel extra special because Gonzaga was the last team to knock off the Stags. DeMatha showed off its toughness in the second half as it stuck with its rushing attack and continued to pound the rock. After Gonzaga scored a touchdown to cut the deficit to 16-13 with just under five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Stags went 60 yards down the field for the decisive touchdown on their next drive without throwing one pass. The Stags finished the game scoring touchdowns on three of their last four possessions.
Next game: Friday vs. Archbishop Carroll (Washington, D.C.)
6. (6) Roswell (Ga.), 7-0For the seventh-consecutive time this year, Roswell beat its opponent by double digits. This time it was Walton (Marietta, Ga.), who lost 55-10. The Hornets have one of the best defenses in the country led by 4-star safety
Xavier Mckinney. They haven't allowed more than 14 points in any game this season and are only allowing 5.7 points per game. Roswell's offense has been rolling as of late too, with at least 45 points in three of the last four games.
Next game: Friday at Etowah (Woodstock, Ga.)
7. (7) (St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), 6-1Just like Mater Dei, St. John Bosco has cruised through its first two Trinity League games, beating Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) and Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) by a combined 103 points. The Braves have now won 23 consecutive league games and since their lone loss to No. 1 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) they have won four in a row, outscoring the opposition 228-39. There will be a lot on the line this Friday night against Mater Dei, as the winner be in the driver's seat for the league crown.
Next game: Friday vs. Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.)
8. (8) Grayson (Loganville, Ga.), 6-1Grayson continues to roll since its season-opening loss to No. 2 IMG Academy. The Rams beat Archer (Lawrenceville, Ga.) 38-0 to win their sixth-consecutive game. The defense was lights-out, limiting Archer to 108 yards of total offense, and 2017 Clemson commit
Chase Brice led the way on offense with three touchdown passes.
Next game: Friday vs. Newton (Covington, Ga.)
9. (9) Mountain Pointe (Phoenix), 8-0Mountain Pointe beat a very good Desert Ridge (Mesa, Ariz.) team 27-13 to improve to 8-0. The Pride have been one of the most resilient teams in all of high school football this year. They lost their starting quarterback
Noah Grover to a broken leg and starting running back
Gary Bragg to a torn ACL but they keep finding ways to win.
Rashie Hodge jr led the way on offense, rushing for 212 yards and four touchdowns.
Isaiah Pola-mao and
Matthew Pola-mao have been solid too in leading one of the top defenses in the country.
Next game: Friday vs. Corona del Sol (Tempe, Ariz.)
10. (10) Allen (Texas), 7-0The Eagles have been playing great football in 2016 and this past weekend was probably their best game of the season. They improved to 7-0 after a dominant 42-7 win against a very good Guyer (Denton, Texas) team. Allen scored a touchdown on six of its first seven possessions and
Mitchell Jonke finished the night with 255 yards through the air to go with two touchdowns, one passing and one rushing. Allen has outscored the opposition 322-95 this season and has won every game by at least 18 points.
Next game: Thursday at McKinney (Texas)
11. (11) St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 4-2St. Thomas Aquinas couldn't wait to step on the field after its 25-24 triple overtime loss to Bishop Gorman, and Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) was probably upset it had to be the first opponent for the Raiders, because Aquinas rolled to a 42-8 win. The Raiders were up 42-0 at halftime and rested their starters during the second half. 2017 Florida commit
Jake Allen finished the evening 6 of 7 passing for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Next game: Friday vs. Boyd Anderson (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.)
12. (12) American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.), 7-0Despite racking up 19 penalties for 178 yards, American Heritage was too much to handle for a young Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) team, as the Patriots won 29-9. Head coach Patrick Surtain was upset with his team's penalties but he was happy they battled through it with a 20-point win against a very talented team. American Heritage finished the night with 269 yards on the ground behind one of the best offensive lines in the country, led by 4-star offensive guard
Tedarrell Slaton jr. and 4-star Michigan commit
Kai-leon Herbert. The Patriots continue to show they have one of the best defenses in the country, as they have limited the opposition to 10 points or less in five of seven games this year, and they have done so in their last four contests.
Next game: Friday at Jackson (Miami)
13. (13) Colerain (Cincinnati), 8-0In a matchup between the top two defenses in the Greater Miami Conference, Colerain flexed its muscle to a 28-0 shutout win over Fairfield (Ohio) to win its 57th-consecutive conference game. 2017 Ohio State commit
Amir Riep proved he is healthy, as the 4-star defensive back had one interception and starting quarterback
Gunnar Leyendecker saw his first action since Week 3 as he split reps with sophomore
Deante Smith, who has filled in nicely while Leyendecker was hurt. Colerain has proven it has one of the top defenses in all of high school football, holding the opposition to eight points or less in five of eight games this year, and the Cardinals got their second shutout of the season.
Next game: Friday at Lakota West (West Chester, Ohio)
14. (14) Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.), 8-0Idle.
Next game: Friday vs. Shadow Mountain Phoenix, Ariz.)

Donovan Peoples-Jones showed why he is one of the most talented players in the country, as he had two punt return touchdowns, one touchdown reception, a touchdown pass and an interception all in the first half. So far this year Cass Tech has outscored the opposition 394-61 with the lowest margin of victory being 13- oints. The team that lost by 13 gets another crack at Cass Tech this Friday night at Detroit's Ford Field with the Division 1 PSL title on the line.
Next game: Friday vs. King (Detroit)
16. (16) Centennial (Corona, Calif.), 6-1One thing is for certain with Corona Centennial, year in and year out, they are going to have one of the most explosive offenses in the country, and nothing has changed in 2016. They have scored at least 42 points in every game this season and the defense has been playing great football as of late too.
Miles Reed had another big-time game, rushing for 164 yards and three scores, and the senior running back now has 1,274 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground. The Pac-5 playoffs are going to be crazy once again in 2016 with Centennial, St. John Bosco and Mater Dei.
Next game: Friday at Corona (Calif.)
17. (17) McGill-Toolen (Mobile, Ala.), 8-0McGill-Toolen is just as good as the 1988 Vigor (Prichard, Ala.) team was, at least according to Baker (Mobile, Ala.) head coach Danny Smith. That 1988 team was one of the best in high school football history. This McGill-Toolen team has won 17 games in a row dating back to last year and so far this season they have outscored the opposition 331-82. They are loaded with a boatload of talent, led by starting quarterback

Next game: Friday vs. Ballard (Louisville, Ky.)
22. (22) Warren Central (Indianapolis), 8-1In the most bizarre game of the weekend, Warren Central proved it isn't out of it until the final whistle is blown. Down 18-13 with one final untimed down left on the road against St. Xavier (Cincinnati),
Zach Summeier and
David Bell connected on one of the top plays of the season. The 4-star wide receiver showed why he is one of the best in the country at going up high to make the catch at the 1-yard line then fighting his way into the end zone on the last play of the game, as the Warriors pulled off a remarkable 19-18 win. Warren Central has now won seven games in a row since its lone loss to No. 13 Colerain (Cincinnati) back in late August. The regular season is over for the Warriors, and they begin postseason play against Franklin Central in the IHSAA 6A bracket on Oct. 28.

Next game: Friday vs. Richland Northeast (Columbia, S.C.)
The Woodlands (Texas), 7-0 The Woodlands continues to be one of the best teams in all of Texas in 2016 as it improved to 7-0 with a 42-2 win against Oak Ridge (Conroe, Texas). It is the first time the Highlanders are 7-0 since 2010 but they are hoping for different results in the playoffs this time around. That season they went 10-0 during the regular season but lost a playoff opener to Klein Oak (Spring, Texas). The Woodlands has been one of the best all-around teams in the country, and that could bode well for head coach Mark Schmid when the playoffs begin in November.
Next game: Friday at Conroe (Texas)
Kahuku (Hawaii), 8-1The Red Raiders have been the best team in Hawaii this year and outside of a loss to the No. 1 team in the country, Bishop Gorman, they have outscored the opposition 404-29. Kahuku's defense has been the high school version of the Alabama Crimson Tide, as it has scored nine defensive touchdowns in 2016 and has tallied at least one defensive score in seven of nine games, including one last week in its 63-0 shutout win against Leilehua (Wahiawa, Hawaii) in the OIA quarterfinals. And, Kahuku's 3-star running back
Kesi Ah hoy has been rewarded for being one of the best players in the state as he just accepted an invitation to play in the inaugural Polynesian Bowl on Jan. 21, 2017. Kahuku is one win away from playing in the state final for the 26th time in school history, which more than any other school, but the team they are playing this Saturday has appeared in 24 OIA finals.
Next game: Saturday vs. Wai'anae (Hawaii)
