LONG BEACH, Calif. - Special teams carried
Long Beach Poly (Long Beach, Calif.) to a 48-6 victory over Woodrow Wilson (Long Beach, Calif.) on Saturday as the return units contributed two touchdowns. The Jackrabbits's special teams scored on two punt returns.
Long Beach Poly was up 34-0 at the half after taking the lead on a punt return touchdown by
John Smith in the first quarter.
LBP expanded its lead to 35 points entering the fourth quarter. The Jackrabbits' lone score in the quarter came on a defensive touchdown.
With the win Long Beach Poly extended its winning streak to five games. LBP defeated the Rams 54-16 last week.
Gerard Wicks was the top performer for the Jackrabbits. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns and caught one touchdown.
Jason Bonney made a difference for the Bruins. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to three on the year.
Woodrow Wilson's lone touchdown came on an 11-yard pass from Bonney to Zimari Manning in the third quarter.

Iman Marshall, Coming into the game Long Beach Poly had allowed 19.5 points per game this year. LBP held firm on the defensive front, and kept WW well below the 29.5 points it had been averaging per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 65-13 win for the Jackrabbits.
The defeat comes as a step back for Woodrow Wilson, which notched a 21-19 victory over Cabrillo in its previous outing. The loss snapped the Bruins' 3-game winning streak.
Long Beach Poly (6-3) goes up against Cabrillo in a Moore game matchup next week, while Woodrow Wilson (3-6) locks horns with Jordan also in a Moore game.
