Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school girls basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Aaliyah Chavez of
Monterey (Lubbock) is the 2024-25 Texas MaxPreps Player of the Year. A repeat selection, the 5-foot-11 senior point guard led the Plainsmen to a 37-5 record and the Class 5A Division II state championship.
For the season, Chavez averaged 34.9 points per game, 9.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.7
steals per game. She topped 50 points three times and went for 40 or more in 16 games.

Chavez finished her career with 4,796 points, good for 14th on the national career scoring list.
Regarded as the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2025, Chavez is set to announce her college decision March 25. She is expected to choose between Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Texas Tech and UCLA.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April. Past selections include 2024 WNBA Most Valuable Player A'ja Wilson (2014) as well as 2024 All-WNBA first team picks Caitlin Clark (2020), Napheesa Collier (2015), Breanna Stewart (2012) and Alyssa Thomas (2010).
