The Detroit Tigers made
Max Clark of
Franklin Community (Franklin, Ind.) the first high school player chosen in the Major League Baseball Draft when he came off the board with the No. 3 overall pick Sunday in Seattle.
Clark, the MaxPreps Indiana State Baseball Player of the Year, batted .646 on the season with 45 runs, 33 RBI, nine doubles, five triples and six home runs. He finished his career with a .551 batting average.
Clark is the second highest high school player chosen from Indiana. Pat Underwood, a pitcher from Kokomo, went No. 2 overall in 1976, also to the Detroit Tigers.
College World Series champion Louisiana State University had the top two players chosen in pitcher Paul Skenes and outfielder Dylan Crews. Skenes prepped at
El Toro (Lake Forest, Calif.) while Crews played high school baseball
Lake Mary (Lake Mary, Fla.).
Walker Jenkins of
South Brunswick (Southport, N.C.) was the second prep player selected, going at No. 5 to the Minnesota Twins.
