Kentucky high school football rankings: Boyle County headlines preseason MaxPreps Top 25

Rebels out for third consecutive state championship.

High school football kicks off in Kentucky with more than 100 games across the state Aug. 19. After finishing 14-1 and winning the Class 4A state championship game last season, Boyle County (Danville) headlines our look at this year's contenders in the preseason MaxPreps Top 25.

Under head coach Justin Haddix, the Rebels are led by 247Sports Composite three-star wide receiver transfer Dakota Patterson and three-star Kentucky defensive end commit Tommy Ziesmer (10 sacks, 5 forced fumbles) as they venture for a third consecutive Kentucky state championship.

Frederick Douglass (Lexington) comes in at No. 2 after reaching the Class 5A state championship game in 2021 where it fell to preseason No. 7 South Warren (Bowling Green).

Douglass returns T.J. Horton (Ball State commit), Ty Bryant (Kentucky) and 6-4, 290-pound defensive lineman Jamarrion Harkless, whose offers include Auburn, Illinois and Cincinnati.

The top two preseason teams will face off in the Oct. 28 regular season finale.

St. Xavier (Louisville) starts the season ranked No. 3 in the state after winning the Class 6A state championship over Male (Louisville).

The Tigers are led by stout senior defenders Jaxon Panariello, Teddy Meiers and Micah Carter, who is a 6-5, 250-pound defensive end looking to win back-to-back state crowns before taking his talents to Purdue.
