Nebraska's Top 10 girls basketball winning streaks

Putting together a talent-heavy roster generally goes a long way toward producing deep postseason runs and claiming the hardware that goes along with winning state championships. However, there are no guarantees.

Sometimes the hardware is attained simply because the champion gets hot at the right time, sneaks up on the rest of the field and steals the show.


Class C1 power Mitchell has won 14 in a row to claim the No. 2 spot this week, while Hastings St. Cecilia and Bruning-Davenport/Shickley are tied for the No. 3 spot with 11 game winning streaks. Crofton and Humphrey St. Francis are tied for fifth this week with 10 game winning streaks.

Valentine's Day showed very little love to some of Nebraska's heavy hitters. Wahoo entered its C1-4 Subdistrict contest against crosstown rival Bishop Neumann clinging to the state's longest winning streak of 22 games, but fell to its rival 46-42. Blue Hill saw an 18-game winning streak snapped 65-37 to Hastings St. Cecilia, while Ponca fell to Hartington Cedar Catholic 46-45, snapping its 17-game winning streak.

Pleasanton, Mitchell and Hastings St. Cecilia have all made it through regular season and district play having suffered just one casualty on their record. Twelve girls basketball programs have won eight straight games, or more, to find a spot in our latest Nebraska Top 10 — and they are ready for the rip roaring postseason basketball fun coming their way at the end of February and hopefully into March.

The second line lists each school's MaxPreps Rankings as of Tuesday — locally and nationally – and the third line informs the reader which school handed the hot team its last loss and when.
