Highlights of the top-ranked Eagles from the 2019-20 season.
Another decade of high school basketball has come to a close so we decided to take a look back on the best high school basketball teams over the past 10 seasons.
Although it is impossible for these teams to battle it out on the court, there is plenty of room to debate over which team was the most dominant since 2010.
Several teams put together impressive resumes since the 2010-2011 season but these teams stood out above the rest as the Top 10 teams of the past decade.
1. 2019-20 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.)Record: 25-0
Rundown: This past season's Eagles were clearly the best team, featuring a rotation of nine Top 100 prospects and three McDonald's All-Americans including Cunningham, the 2019-20 MaxPreps National Player of the Year. The Sunshine State powerhouse was dominant from start to finish, winning by an average of
39 points per contest and securing seven wins over Top 25 opponents.
2. 2010-11 St. Anthony (Jersey City, N.J.)
Record: 33-0
Rundown: St. Anthony left no doubt, dismantling then-No. 1 and unbeaten St. Patrick 62-45
in the North Jersey Non Public-B final. This was the team that started an incredible 83-game winning streak
that began the first game of the season and ended in February 2013.
Record: 44-0
Rundown: This was clearly Oak Hill Academy's best team of the decade, compiling a number of big wins during its unbeaten run. That included a 30-point blowout of nationally ranked Prestonwood Academy at the Spalding Hoophall Classic. The Warriors didn't participate in the
2012 National High School Invitational, opting to travel to China
for foreign competition at the end of the year.
Record: 35-0
Rundown: One of the most exciting high school basketball teams of
the 2000s, the Huskies averaged 98 points per contest and tied the state record
with 18 100-point games that season. Chino Hills captured the City of Palms Classic title, beating Montverde Academy in the process, and won each of its final nine
contests by 20 points or more.
Record: 35-0
Rundown: This was a special year for legendary head coach Gary
McKnight. The longtime Monarch coach, who now has over 1,150 career wins, captured the
first national championship of his illustrious career. Led by elite
senior Johnson, the Monarchs went unbeaten for the first time since
1985 and knocked off five state champions along the way.
6. 2013-14 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.)
Record: 28-0
Rundown: This group may have possessed the deadliest one-two punch of the past decade as senior Russell and junior Simmons each played a big role in the offense. If it weren't for a loss to Curie at the Spalding Hoophall Classic that
was later ruled a forfeit, this talented unit would be listed a few spots higher.
7. 2011-12 St. Anthony (Jersey City, N.J.)
Record: 32-0
Rundown: This year marked the end of an incredible three-year career at St. Anthony for Kyle Anderson, who compiled a record of 93-1 during his time with the Friars and ended his career on a 65-game winning streak. This group coasted to its second consecutive NJSIAA Tournament of
Champions crown, defeating six postseason opponents by over 36
points per game.
8. 2017-18 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.)
Record: 35-0
Rundown: The Eagles outscored opponents by nearly 30 points per game in
2017-18 en route to their record setting fourth GEICO Nationals crown. They were led by 2017-18 MaxPreps National Player of the Year Barrett and a strong supporting cast of high major Division I prospects.
Record: 29-0
Rundown: In one of the most dominant senior seasons of the past decade, Porter Jr.,
the MaxPreps National Player of the Year, averaged 37 points and 14
rebounds per game. He led a Nathan Hale team that went 3-18 the previous season to its only state title in program history.
10. (tie) 2011-12 Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.)
Record: 29-1
Rundown: The Pilots captured their third NHSI title in four seasons, guided by a talented starting lineup that featured one of the most dynamic frontcourts of the past decade to go along with three high major guards.
10. (tie) 2012-13 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.)
Record: 27-2
Rundown: Despite the two losses, this Eagles squad had one of the most talented starting fives in program history. While the late season addition of sophomore sensation Simmons bolstered
their roster for their Dick's Nationals run, adding him earlier in the season may have eliminated their only setbacks. This group captured the program's first NHSI title.
