On Friday night the 6-foot-1, 160-pounder completed 28 of 58 passes for a state-record 627 yards and seven touchdowns as
Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel Aire, Kan.) suffered a 78-58 loss to once beaten
St. Mary's Academy (St. Marys, Kan.). He was intercepted twice.
Howell held the previous state record of 579 yards, which he set earlier this fall. He just missed his career-high of eight touchdown strikes.
He now has passed for over 3,300 yards in just eight games.
Coach Trey Hall told MaxPreps, "There's not a throw that Zach can't make. He has great pocket presence, he makes his pre-snap reads and recognizes coverages well enough that he puts our team in a good situation before the play begins."
Prestyn Atherton, a 5-11, 170-pound senior, caught seven passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns, including 74- and 60-yard bombs. Bo Westerfield, a 6-3, 165-pound senior, had 12 catches for 206 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
