Pender (Burgaw) and
Hobbton (Newton Grove) combined to score 189 points Friday, setting the record for most points in a North Carolina high school football game. And they didn't even get to finish.
The Patriots beat Hobbton 106-83 in a game that ended with just over a minute remaining in regulation after the lights in Penders' stadium shut off,
according to the Wilmington Star-News.
"I'm pretty tired," Pender coach Tom Eanes told the paper after the high-scoring affair. "It was a heck of a ball game, I don't know if we could tackle anybody."
Junior running backs
Jassiah Hill and
Jeremiah Johnson scored a combined 11 touchdowns for the Patriots. They entered Friday's game with 10 touchdowns between them.

Pender held a 54-49 halftime edge.
For Hobbton,
Cole Weeks tossed six touchdown passes, according to MaxPreps Live Scoring, while
Steven Aguilar rushed for four scores.
This wasn't the first time Pender (4-3) put up video-game numbers this season as the Patriots handed Lejeune (Camp Lejeune) an 88-34 loss in the opener. They were on the wrong side of a wild one last week in a 65-36 loss to East Bladen (Elizabethtown).
Hobbton (3-4) also has shown the ability to score in bunches with a 64-14 win in September over Spring Creek (Seven Springs).
