Silver had the biggest jump last week in the New Mexico girls basketball MaxPreps Computer Rankings. The Fighting Cols moved up 22 positions to No. 49 out of 119 teams.
They raised their record to 6-2 by beating Lordsburg 59-56 and Santa Teresa 49-24. Against Lordsburg, 6-foot-1 freshman
Katelynn Limardo set the pace with 20 points, while 5-7 junior point guard
Aysia Salas added 17 points. The Fighting Colts drilled 13 of 18 free throws.
Their victory over Santa Teresa was the third this year, with the other two being by scores of 47-34 and 49-23. In the latest game, Salas had 16 points, while Limardo had 11.
The second-biggest advancement was 19 points by Farmington, which moved to No. 35. The Scorpions defeated Durango, Colo., 43-37, holding the losers to 2-of-18 shooting from 3-point range. It was only the third loss for the Colorado school.
Farmington also lost to talented city foe Piedra Vista 44-30.
Lyla Denny, a 5-10 senior, led the Scorpions with 12 points, while 5-9 senior
Tamia Pete had 10 points. Pete is averaging 8.8 rebounds for the year.
