Video: MaxPreps Cup - Fall standings
See host Zack Poff break down the latest release.Green Hope (Cary, N.C.) finished the fall sports season with the No. 1 boys soccer team in the country, according to the MaxPreps National Boys Soccer Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard, but the Falcons were hardly a one-hit wonder.
Besides winning a state championship in boys soccer and the nation's top ranking in the sport, Green Hope also won the North Carolina Class 4A state title in girls volleyball. The Falcons also finished second at the state cross country meet in the boys and girls events while the girls tennis team finished second in the state tournament.
As a result, Green Hope is the top school in the MaxPreps Cup standings for the fall sports season. Green Hope beat out St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) for the top spot. The Raiders also had an outstanding fall season, winning state titles in boys cross country, football and girls volleyball while also being nationally ranked in the latter two sports.
Bozeman (Mont.) is right behind St. Thomas Aquinas with four state titles in boys and girls cross country, girls golf and girls soccer. Bozeman also had the No. 1 boys cross country team in the nation, according to DyeStat.
The MaxPreps Cup is determined by ranking all schools that win a state
championship or finish second at the state level (or section level if there is
no state competition).
Points are also weighted, rewarding states that have a large number of schools, as well as more
points to schools that compete in larger enrollment divisions. Sports
are also weighted differently, with football and basketball, among
others, receiving more points than sports like golf and tennis.
Teams
are also given points for being ranked in the Xcellent 25 football and
volleyball rankings, the MaxPreps soccer computer rankings and the DyeStat national cross country rankings.
