Top 25 high school football rankings

Trinity (Euless, Texas) remains No. 1 in this week's Xcellent 25 High School Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard, but the Trojans' position at the top is tenuous.

In a 36-16 victory over South Grand Prairie, the Trojans appeared sloppy at times in the opening round of the 5A-I playoffs. Meanwhile, South Panola (Batesville, Miss.), St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Katy (Texas) all won convincingly to turn the heat on Trinity.

Centennial (Corona, Calif.), which moved from No. 7 to No. 5, is a threat to all four teams ranked ahead of it. The Huskies have been as impressive as any team in the country lately, including a 63-21 drubbing of Corona rival Roosevelt last Thursday.

Also on the rise is St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio), which pounded then-No. 15 Glenville (Cleveland, Ohio) 42-22. The Eagles leap from No. 14 to No. 7.

Entering the rankings this week are Pickerington Central (Pickerington, Ohio) and Mullen (Denver, Colo.). Pickerington Central is 11-0 and has not slowed down since opening the season with a 36-20 victory over Virginia power Oscar Smith.

Mullen, which has won 30-straight games, is the heavy favorite to win the 5A playoff bracket in Colorado.
 
Xcellent 25 Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard

1. (1) Trinity (Euless, Texas), 11-0
Trinity downed South Grand Prairie 36-16 in the first round of the 5A-I playoffs. Tevin Williams rushed for two scores for the Trojans.

2. (2) South Panola (Batesville, Miss.), 12-0
The Tigers continue to cruise, this time pounding Grenada 56-0. They have outscored opponents 592-90 this season.

3. (3) St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 10-0
Jamal Wilson broke loose for 154 yards and Jacob Rudock threw five more touchdowns as the Raiders pounded Cypress Bay 60-14.

4. (4) Katy (Texas), 11-0
Running backs Donovonn Young and Adam Taylor both went over the 100-yard mark and Katy's defense clamped down to beat Bellaire 41-6.

5. (7) Centennial (Corona, Calif.), 10-0
Another week, another lopsided win for Centennial, which blasted Roosevelt 63-21.

6. (5) Armwood (Seffner, Fla.), 10-0
Armwood notched its fifth shutout of the season, blanking Alonso 49-0. Quarterback Josh Grady had five total touchdowns to spark the Hawk offense.

7. (14) St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio), 12-0
In one of the biggest games this season, St. Edward beat previously-unbeaten Glenville 42-22. A matchup with 12-0 Solon awaits the Eagles.

8. (6) Hoover (Ala.), 12-0
Justin McArthur rushed for two touchdowns to lead Hoover to a 30-10 victory over Spain Park to advance in the 6A playoffs.

9. (8) Mission Viejo (Calif.), 10-0
The Diablos offense rolled for 523 total yards in a 63-12 victory over Trabuco Hills. It was the team's 24th-straight regular season victory.

10. (9) Phoebus (Hampton, Va.), 11-0
Tyree Lee ran for three scores as Phoebus beat Warwick 49-0. The Phantoms have won 41 games in a row, breaking a VHSL state record.

11. (10) Grant (Sacramento, Calif.), 11-0
The Pacers opened their playoff run by trouncing Wood 54-10. Villiami Moala had one of the Pacers' three interceptions in a dominant defensive effort.

12. (11) West Monroe (La.), 11-0
Paul Turner's three touchdowns was more than enough for West Monroe, which knocked off Chalmette 42-6.

13. (12) Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), 9-0
Six touchdowns from Paul Canevari helped Don Bosco Prep down Paramus Catholic for the second time this season, 62-0.

14. (17) De La Salle (Concord, Calif.), 10-0
De La Salle held off a tough California squad 31-17. Lucas Dunne had three rushing touchdowns for the Spartans.

15. (18) Wheaton-Warrenville South (Wheaton, Ill.), 12-0
Senior quarterback Reilly O'Toole scrambled for two scores and tossed for another as Wheaton-Warrenville South downed Glenbard West 40-20.

16. (19) Bingham (South Jordan, Utah), 12-0
Quarterback Stefan Cantwell threw four touchdown passes and rushed for another pair of scores as Bingham beat Jordan 51-23.

17. (16) Dwyer (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), 9-1
Shawn McClaine found the end zone four times as the Panthers routed Jupiter 52-0.

18. (20) Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.), 12-0
Justin Worley tallied 476 passing yards and five touchdowns to lead the Trojans over James Island 45-14.

19. (22) Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.), 10-0
Manatee completed a perfect regular season by downing Booker 44-14. Quarterback Cord Sandberg rushed for two scores for the Hurricanes.

20. (23) Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.), 12-0
Marquise Williams threw for 267 yards and five touchdowns in the Mavericks' 56-0 win over Olympic.

21. (24) Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.), 10-0
Standout running back Demetrius Hart rushed for five touchdowns in Dr. Phillips' 49-6 rout over West Orange

22. (21) Camden County (Kingsland, Ga.), 10-1
The Wildcats jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead over Coffee and won 28-18. Alex Williams rushed for 122 yards on 16 carries.

23. (25) Servite (Anaheim, Calif.), 10-0
Three fumble recoveries and two interceptions helped the Friar defense smother Orange Lutheran in a 31-13 victory.

24. (NR) Mullen (Denver, Colo.), 11-0
For the second time this season, Mullen beat Cedar Creek, this time ending the Bruins season. The Mustangs have now won 30-straight games.

25. (NR) Pickerington Central (Pickerington, Ohio), 11-0
Pickerington Central held Westerville South star running back Jayshon Jackson to 103 yards on 31 carries in a 30-0 win.
