The afternoon of February 15th was filled with excitement as the Grayson High School Rams' football team received the well-deserved Army National Guard national ranking trophy as part of the 7th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. The Rams went an undefeated 15-0 this season en route to winning their first football state championship in school history.
With the prestigious trophy displayed at center court of the high school gymnasium, the Georgia Army National Guard pumped up the crowd by throwing t-shirts into the bleachers with the help of members of the championship football team. Principal Hopson then began the Tour of Champions pep rally and the students cheered as he honored the undefeated football team. As was evidenced by the various championship banners hanging throughout the gymnasium, Grayson High School athletics is used to winning. However, this is the first time in the 12 year program that the team went undefeated and went on to win the football state championship. Next, Principal Hopson called up Arthur Kai of MaxPreps, who explained how out of 16,000 football teams across the nation Grayson was ranked No. 18, and with that the crowd erupted in applause. Teamwork, loyalty, and hard work are a few of the words that Sergeant First Class Akilah Clarke, the next presenter, used to describe the Rams football team and their victory in the state championship game. She then bestowed upon Coach Conn the Army National Guard national ranking trophy.
Coach Conn was clearly honored and, after accepting the trophy, he asked a few of the players to speak to the crowd. They all expressed their gratitude to the school and the fans for the support shown throughout the season. On top of the Army National Guard national ranking trophy, Coach Conn was also awarded the Coach of the Year plaque by the Georgia Touchdown Club. All in all the ceremony was a great boost to school spirit, to the entire senior class, and to the Rams football team. Great job Grayson!
