MaxPreps Top 25 high school volleyball rankings

The Woodlands (Conroe, Texas) moved atop the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 with a pair of 5A Region II District victories last week to remain unbeaten in 33 matches this season. Meanwhile, last week's No. 1 lost to a long-time crosstown rival to open the door for The Woodlands.

Led by middle blockers Morgan Eason and Rachel Reed, The Woodlands has not lost a set in its last seven matches and has outscored its foes 81-4 this season.

Dating back to the 2012 season, The Woodlands has won 55 of its last 56 matches.

Louisville rival Assumption avenged an early season loss to knock Mercy from the No. 1 spot. Mercy fell to No. 9.

St. James (Lenexa, Kan.) moved up a spot to No. 2 in running its record to 29-0. The Thunder has yet to lose a set (61-0) this season.

Unbeaten Dakota (Macomb, Mich.) also moved up a spot after recording a pair of lopsided wins last week.

Torrey Pines (San Diego), ranked No. 4 last week, lost in the finals of the California Challenge to Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) 2-1 and dropped to No. 14.

As a result, Mater Dei - ranked in the Top 25 earlier this season, starts this week ranked No. 25.

Also new to the Top 25 this week are unbeaten Wellington (Fla.) at No. 15 and once beaten P.K. Yonge (Gainesville, Fla.) and Brentwood (Tenn.) and Ankeny (Iowa) who upset former Top 25 teams.

Bretnwood (51-2) beat Ravenwood (41-4) and Ankeny (30-2) defeated Bettendorf (30-2).

The Highlanders beat Conroe (Texas), 3-0, and A&M Consolidated (College Station, Texas) on Friday. They have outscored their foes 81-4. Senior Kelly Quinn is averaging nearly seven digs per set. The Highlanders visit Lufkin (Texas) on Tuesday.

2. (3) St. James Academy (Lenexa, Kan.), 29-0
The Thunder shut out Lee's Summit West (Mo.) recording 41 kills in three sets. Jenna Gray totaled 38 assists. The Thunder host 18-5 Blue Valley (Stillwell, Mo.) on Tuesday.

3. (4) Dakota (Macomb, Mich.), 29-0
Dakota blanked Fraser (Mich.) and Marysville (Mich.) last week as Carli Snyder had 31 kills. Up next: Grosse Pointe North (Mich.).

4. (6) Carroll (Southlake, Texas), 37-1
The Lady Dragons ran their win streak to 25 after sweeping Fossil (Keller, Texas) and Richland (North Richland Hills). Carroll hosts Haltom (Haltom City, Texas) on Tuesday.

5. (7) East Troy (Wis.), 35-0
The Trojans recorded double digit victories over Jefferson (Wis.) and Edgerton (Wis.) last week. Setter Brittney Jakscht had 67 assists in the victories. The Trojans open play in the Rock Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday.

6. (8) St. Ursula Academy (Toledo, Ohio), 24-0
St. Ursula won the Three River Athletic Conference title and finished the regular season unbeaten and open regional play on Tuesday.

7. (9) Bellarmine Prep (Tacoma, Wash.), 18-0
Bellarmine has lost one set this season (45-1) and blanked four teams last week. Next up: At Yelm (Wash.).

8. (10) Cardinal Gibbons (Raleigh, N.C.), 21-0
The Crusaders beat 19-7 Cedar Ridge (Hillsborough, N.C.), 3-0. They close out the regular season on Wednesday against 18-7 Chapel Hill (N.C.).

9. (1) Mercy (Louisville, Ky.), 29-1
Lost to crosstown rival Assumption, 3-1. Next up: Newport Central Catholic (Louisville, Ky.) on Tuesday.

10. (11) Kamehameha (Honolulu), 26-1
The Warriors recorded 3-1 wins over ‘Iolani (Honolulu) and Mid-Pacific Institute (Honolulu) to continue domination over island teams. They visit Maryknoll (Honolulu) on Wednesday.

11. (12) Horizon (Scottsdale, Ariz.), 23-1
The Huskies beat Mountain Ridge (Glendale, Ariz.) and Centennial (Peoria, Ariz.) and upped their kill average to more than 13 per set. They host Boulder Creek (Anthem, Ariz.) on Tuesday.

12. (11) Carmel (Ind.), 26-1
Since losing to Sacred Heart (Louisville, Ky.), the Greyhounds have won 23 matches and have lost just one set during the streak. In their four most recent wins, they outscored their opponents, 300-117. Up next: host 17-8 Westfield (Ind.) on Tuesday.

13. (13) Lafayette (Wildwood, Mo.), 21-1-1
Lafayette defeated a pair of St.Louis schools (Villa Duchesne and Oakville) 2-0 to run their shutout streak to a dozen. Up next: at Northwest (House Springs, Mo.) on Tuesday.

14. (5) Torrey Pines (San Diego), 17-1
Ran its win streak to 17 before losing to Mater Dei in the finals of the California Challenge. Reily Buechler and Savannah Rennie were named all-tournament. TPHS plays at Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) on Wednesday.

15. (NR) Wellington (Fla.), 23-0
The 8A Wolverines last lost a set on Sept. 11 and have blanked 13 foes since - including Royal Palm Beach (Fla.), Glades Central (Belle Glade, Fla.) and Atlantic (Delray Beach, Fla). They host 16-6 Park Vista (Lake Worth, Fla.) on Tuesday.

16. (16) Veterans Memorial (Mission, Texas), 31-0
Led by Shania Gilpin, the Lady Patriots beat Edcouch-Elsa (Edcouch, Texas).

17. (18) Mother McAuley (Chicago), 24-2
The Macs defeated Chicago opponents – Resurrection and St. Ignatius — last week. They host Trinity (River Forest, Ill.) on Thursday and participate in the Glenbard East Invitational Friday and Saturday.

18. (23) Churchill (San Antonio), 36-2
Since having its 27-match win streak snapped, Churchill has blanked three opponents. Up next: at Johnson (San Antonio) on Wednesday.

19. (19) Fossil Ridge (Fort Collins, Colo.), 15-0
Fossil Ridge was dominating in wins over Monarch (Louisville, Colo.), Horizon (Thornton, Colo.) and Fairview (Boulder, Colo.). Up next: Mountain Range (Westminster, Colo.) on Wednesday.

20. (20) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.), 22-2
The Monarchs recorded 35 kills (14 from Clare Powers) in a 3-0 win over Presentation (San Jose). They visit 18-3 Valley Christian (San Jose) on Wednesday.

21. (NR) P.K. Yonge (Gainesville, Fla.), 22-1
Only loss is to a 20-3 team 17 matches ago. Yonge is likely youngest team east of Arizona with one senior, one junior and four sophomores joining a pair of 8th graders. The Blue Wave hosts Middleburg (Fla.) on Tuesday.

22. (NR) Brentwood (Tenn.), 51-2
Trailing by three points in the tiebreaker, the Lady Bruins came back to beat previously ranked Ravenwood (Brentwood, TN), 24-26, 25-20, 25-15, 21-25, 15-12 to win the District 11-AAA championship at Independence on Thursday. Tournament MVP Hunter Thompson led Brentwood (51-2) with 68 assists. Brentwood faces McGavock in the Region 6-AAA semifinals on Tuesday.

23. (25) St. Francis (Wheaton, Ill.), 28-3
Samantha Dubiel is averaging nearly seven digs per set in leading the Spartans to a 28-3 record. She recorded 53 digs in seven sets last week. They visit Marian Central Catholic (Woodstock, Ill.) on Thursday.

24. (NR) Ankeny (Iowa), 30-2
Captured the Bettendorf Invitational and defeated previously No. 22 ranked Bettendorf, 3-0. The Hawks host Centennial (Ankeny) on Wednesday.

25. (NR) Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), 23-4
When outside Frankie Shebby is healthy, Mater Dei might be the best team either side of the Mississippi. The Monarchs knocked off No. 5 Torrey Pines in the finals of the 32-team California Challenge last Saturday and recorded five wins. Shebby, who missed three weeks of the season, was named MVP and teammates Sami Krackower and Payton Chang were named all-tournament. Next up: Rosary (Fullerton, Calif.) on Tuesday.
