The 2021 high school football season in Louisiana kicks off this week
and
MaxPreps has your look at the state's top teams. Coming off a 9-2 campaign last fall, Catholic-B.R. owns the No. 1 spot in our preseason
rankings.
Although the Bears captured the Division 1 state crown last season, their title was later revoked after an investigation conducted by the LHSAA found recruiting violations. Despite suffering two losses by a combined four points, Catholic B.R. outscored their opponents 418-256 last season.
Under the direction of new head coach David Simoneaux, the program looks to reclaim their spot at the top after sanctions wiped away state championships in 2017 and 2020. The Bears have made four consecutive state championship game appearances.
Four teams were nationally ranked in MaxPreps Preseason Top 100 Rankings with Catholic-B.R. debuting at No. 39, St. Thomas More coming in at No. 49, Edna Karr ranked No. 78 and Acadiana beginning the season at No. 82.
Defending state champions include Calvary Baptist (D-IV), Lafayette Christian (D-III), St. Thomas More (D-II), Acadiana (5A), Carencro (4A), Madison Prep (3A), Many (2A) and Oak Grove (1A).
