It's official. After months of speculation,
Andrew Wiggins has made the decision to fast track his promising basketball career by skipping ahead a year and joining the Class of 2013.
Huntington Prep (Huntington, W.Va.) head coach Rob Fulford confirmed the move to MaxPreps on Thursday following comments from Wiggins' father to USA Today.
"It's time," Mitchell Wiggins said to USA Today. "It's time for him (to show) that he is the best in college right now. I think he is ready for the next step."
Wiggins, a 6-foot-8, 200-pound small forward and native of Ontario, Canada, is regarded as the top amateur basketball prospect in the world. He's been a unanimous pick as the top Class of 2014 prospect since he arrived on the American club circuit as a freshman.
After attending Vaughan Secondary in Ontario as a freshman, Wiggins made the move to Huntington Prep prior to the 2011-12 season and enhanced his status by averaging over 22 points per game and helping the upstart program go 24-2.
Kentucky and Florida State, where his father played from 1981-83, are viewed as the leaders in his recruitment. Kansas, Ohio State and North Carolina have also emerged as potential contenders.
