A loud shriek from the student body drowned Harbaugh's announcement of the winner's last name of "Mendez." He just smiled.
This was the halftime scene at a game 40 miles east of San Francisco where the coach of the nation's No. 4 college team mingled for more than four hours while showing his support of perhaps the country's top recruit
Najee Harris.
It's no secret Harbaugh is after the chiseled 6-foot-2, 226-pound running back, who committed to Alabama as a sophomore. Harris was the Tide's first recruit from the Class of 2017.
Since the Wolverines had a bye this week, Harbaugh decided to attend Antioch's homecoming game. He's not allowed to converse with Harris or his family, but he sure made the rounds with the Antioch faithful and administrators.
He arrived more than an hour before the game and took countless selfies with fans, staff and cheerleaders alike. When Harris scored his first touchdown on a 51-yard jaunt, Harbaugh raised both arms triumphantly.
On Antioch's next possession, Harris broke loose for a 53-yard touchdown and finished with 16 rushes for 228 yards. He also intercepted a pass in a 63-25 win over Liberty.
The game was delayed almost 90 minutes when the lights went out with 3:20 left in the third quarter. Harbaugh stayed until the finish.
