The 10th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard next visited
Chandler (Ariz.) to honor the Wolves' football team during halftime of the boys basketball game on Jan. 16. The Wolves won the Division I state championships, the first time since 1949. The Wolves finished Ranked No. 12 nationally for the 2014 season. The announcement was made by MaxPreps, a California-based company that ranks more than 16,000 varsity high school football teams.
The Chandler Wolves crushed Chandler's Hamilton High School with the score of 28-7 for the Division I state title. The team ended the season with an undefeated 14-0 record. This is the first Division I State Championship title for the program. Sergeant First Class Keenan and Staff Sergeant Zapata of the Arizona Army National Guard were on site with MaxPreps representative Tim Bolen to recognize this championship team.
With the gymnasium packed, the presentation began at halftime of the boys basketball game. Tim Bolen introduced the Tour of Champions presentation and explained how the Wolves were ranked No. 12 out of 16,000 football teams across the country. Then, he introduced SFC Kennan, who described the teamwork and trust involved in a championship team. He also spoke of the similarities and what serving for the Army National Guard has in common with a winning team. SFC Kennan then presented the Army National Guard national ranking trophy to coach Shaun Aguano. After accepting the prestigious trophy, Aguano handed the award to his players and stepped back behind the team as they celebrated. Later in private, he spoke of his team and how each player stepped up to earn the state championship. Everyone in the gymnasium cheered and clapped for the team and their accomplishments.
