It was billed as the biggest high school football game of the year. It was hyped beyond belief. And when it was over, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) had come away with a 28-24 win over IMG Academy (Brandeton, Fla.), snapping the Ascenders' 40-game win streak.
"That was high school football at its best," Monarchs coach Bruce Rollinson told Fox Sports West. "We had to pull a couple
plays out that we haven't used since the summer. It was a total
team effort."
The loss didn't hurt IMG in the Composite Top 25, but the former No. 1, St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), dropped to No. 2. It was the first time the Braves have been out of the top slot all season. No worries, though, as Bosco and Mater Dei meet on Oct. 12 in a Trinity League showdown. Stay tuned.
