Dallas-area high school football program
Liberty Christian (Argyle) has named former Cowboys and Raiders tight end Jason Witten as its head coach, the school announced Monday via Twitter. With the exception of 2018 when he served as a color analyst for Monday Night Football, he has been in the NFL since 2003 and recently announced his retirement after spending one season in Las Vegas.
Witten is second in league history among tight ends in receptions (1,228) and yards (13,046). He was named to 11 Pro Bowls, twice earned All-Pro honors and was the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2012.
The Cowboys legend will look to turn around a Liberty Christian that went 2-7 last fall and is just 5-15 over the past two seasons.
Of note, the 2020 Liberty Christian included junior wide receiver/safety
Cristian Driver, the son of former Green Bay Packers pass-catcher Donald Driver.
