The 2021 high school football season in Georgia kicks off on Aug. 18 and MaxPreps has your look at the state's top teams. Defending AAAAAAA state champion Grayson went 14-0 in 2020 and is back to claim the No. 1 spot in the preseason rankings.
The Rams are loaded on the offensive line with senior Georgia commit
Griffin Scroggs and 2020 MaxPreps Freshman All-America first team selection
Waltclaire Flynn Jr. both back.
Adam Carter has gone 25-2 during his first two years as head coach and led Grayson to its third state championship in school history last season. The Rams finished ranked No. 2 in the
final MaxPreps Top 25 rankings, which was the highest they have ever finished.
Four of the top five teams in the preseason rankings are in AAAAAAA. Last year's runner-up — Collins Hill — begins the year ranked No. 2 thanks in part to 2020 MaxPreps National Junior of the Year,
Travis Hunter.
Buford is another team to keep an eye on as it goes for its third consecutive state championship. The Wolves won the AAAAA title in 2019 and stepped up to grab the AAAAAA crown last year.
Other defending state champs in the preseason MaxPreps Top 25 include Warner Robins (AAAAA), Marist (AAAA) and Irwin County (A Public).
