Rankings are fun to look at, especially those of the national variety. But it's all speculation.
Every high school coach's ultimate goal is a state championship, decided on the field, and the list of the teams below have been the best of the best lately when it comes to getting the ultimate job done.
Seventy 11-man football teams have won at least two straight titles and 34 have captured at least three consecutive crowns throughout the country.
Two teams — 'lolani of Honolulu and Highlands from Fort Thomas (Ky.) — have each won six consecutive titles, while perennial national power Bellevue (Wash.) has captured five.
Wendell Look has coached 'Iolani to all six previous crowns. The Raiders, currently 7-4, were also state champions in 2005.
Highlands, all under coach Dale Mueller, has won at least 14 games the last six years and are currently 8-1. Mueller also led Highlands to state crowns in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2004. Highlands has won 22 state crowns overall.
Butch Goncharoff has not only led Bellevue to five straight titles, but 10 since 2001.
Eight teams have won four straight state crowns including perennial national powers De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) and Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas). One of the more interesting squads on the list is California school Truckee, which has won four state crowns, but all in the state of Nevada.
Here's a complete list of the 11-man football teams.
True state champions only as sanctioned by the state. Sectional or group champions not included. Most Consecutive Football State Championships
