The New Year got off to a tough start for the high school girls basketball team at Lyman Hall (Wallingford, Conn.) as it was crushed 92-4 by Sacred Heart Academy (Hamden) on Jan. 3.
The score was 80-0 after three quarters and
according to the Hartford Daily Voice, "...Sacred Heart ramped up the pressure on defense, consistently pressing its opponents, while launching a bevy of three-point shots and running fast breaks at will, despite the score being out of reach for much of the game."
In response, Sacred Heart Academy head coach Jason Kirck received a one-game suspension by the school. That was served Thursday night as the program stayed unbeaten (4-0) with a 42-39 win over Hamden.
While the lopsided score has placed a dark shadow above the Sacred Heart Academy program, Kirck should get some credit for engineering a massive turnaround. The Sharks went 2-18 during the 2018-19 season prior to his arrival but have gone 35-5 in the three seasons since.
