Excelling on the high school volleyball court can be difficult.
Even more so carrying a famous last name as the daughter, sister or niece of a current or former
professional athlete.
But these 25 players have found a way to make their own name with impressive stat lines, championships and national
rankings.
To the average fan, these former athletes are NBA and NFL Hall of Famers and even a Major League home run king. But to most of these girls, they are simply dad.
Father: Erick Dampier. A two-time high school state champion in Mississippi, he was the 10th overall pick in 1996 by Indiana out of Mississippi State and played 16 seasons in the NBA. Dampier scored 7,309 points and grabbed 7,008 rebounds.
Daughter: A two-sport athlete for the Patriots, the 6-foot-5 middle blocker had 174 kills and 60 blocks as a sophomore last season in 119 sets. She has 48 kills and 13 blocks this season. Dampier also played basketball as a sophomore as the Patriots went 19-4.
Chloe Elarton, Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch, Colo.)
Father: Scott Elarton. The 6-7 pitcher spent 10 seasons in the Major Leagues for Houston, Colorado, Cleveland and Kansas City. He finished his career 56-61 with a 5.29 ERA and 698 strikeouts.
Daughter: The Georgia commit was a MaxPreps Preseason All-American and already has 179 assists for the 8-0 Eagles. Last season, the 5-11 setter had 975 assists as Valor Christian went 29-0 and won the Class 5A title. She is closing in on 2,500 assists for her career.
Alexis Ewing, Bullis (Potomac, Md.)
Father: Patrick Ewing. A Basketball Hall of Famer, he was a transformative center in high school, collegiately at Georgetown and then with the New York Knicks. He was a McDonald's All American and National Player of the Year in high school, a NCAA champion and scored 24,815 points with 11,617 rebounds in the NBA.
Mother: Cheryl Weaver. She is the coach at Bullis and was an All-American volleyball player at Long Beach State.
Daughter: The 6-4 Penn State commit is ranked in the top 20 nationally in her class and became the first prep athlete in Maryland to take advantage of NIL opportunities. Last season she was a first team All-Met player by the Washington Post after averaging 5 kills per set and hitting .522.
Myah Favre, Our Lady Academy (Bay St. Louis, Miss.)
Uncle: Brett Favre. A Super Bowl champion and three-time NFL MVP, Favre spent 20 seasons in the NFL. He threw for more than 71,000 yards and 500 touchdowns.
Niece: She is off to a great start for the 18-2 Crescents with 243 kills in 48 sets this season. Last year, she pounded a team-high 474 kills as Our Lady Academy went 42-4 and grabbed the Class 3A title.
Jessica Fields, Mount Paran Christian (Kennesaw, Ga.)
Brother: Justin Fields. Traded in the off-season from Chicago to Pittsburgh, Fields played prep ball at Harrison before leading Ohio State to the 2021 CFB National Championship game. He has already thrown for more than 6,600 yards and 40 touchdowns in three seasons in the NFL.
Sister: Also a top 2025 basketball player, the 6-1 junior middle blocker has 46 kills for the 14-7 Eagles this season. On the hardwood last season, Fields helped Mount Paran win a third straight AA title and fourth overall.
Kapri Garnett, Campbell Hall (North Hollywood, Calif.)
Father: Kevin Garnett. The Big Ticket is a NBA champion, 15-time All-Star and league MVP in 2004. He played for 22 seasons, scoring 26,071 points and grabbing 14,662 rebounds. He was drafted straight out of high school with the fifth pick in 1995 by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Daughter: The 6-2 middle blocker spent last season at Viewpoint before transferring to Campbell Hall, last year's Division II state champion.
Eva Jeffries, Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.)
Father: Jared Jeffries. The 11th pick in the 2002 NBA Draft played 11 years in the association for the Wizards, Knicks, Rockets and Blazers, scoring 3,003 points in his career. He played prep ball at Bloomington North and stayed in-state to play collegiately for the Hoosiers. In 2002, he led Indiana on a Cinderella run to the NCAA title game. He dropped 24 points with 15 boards against No. 1 Duke in the regional semis.
Daughter: The 6-4 sophomore already has 103 kills in 27 sets for the 9-0 Trailblazers. As a freshman on a team with several MaxPreps All-Americans, she finished 2023 with 51 kills, 18 aces and 12 digs.
Ava Jurevicius, Lincoln Lutheran (Lincoln, Neb.)
Father: Joe Jurevicius. A Super Bowl champion in 2002 with Tampa Bay, the wide receiver spent 10 seasons in the NFL with the Giants, Seahawks and Browns. A second-round pick in the 1998 draft after playing at Penn State, Jurevicius had 4,119 career receiving yards and 29 touchdowns in the NFL.
Daughter: The 5-10 outside hitter is also the sister of Penn State player Caroline Jurevicius. Ava has 19 kills in eight sets this season and last year posted 194 kills (2.0 per set) as the Warriors went 36-2 and won the Class C2 title.
Presley Kiffin, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.)
Father: Lane Kiffin. The son of longtime NFL defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin played college football at Fresno State and has spent the past 27 years coaching various college programs with a stint in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders in 2007-08. He is 95-49 as a college coach (5-15 in the NFL) and has led Ole Miss since 2020, compiling a 20-13 record.
Daughter: The USC commit leads the Monarchs in kills early this season with 48 in 20 sets. Last year, she tallied 137 kills on a senior-heavy Mater Dei team that went 43-2, won the Open Division state title and was named MaxPreps National Champions.
Finley Krystkowiak, Torrey Pines (San Diego, Calif.)
Father: Larry Krystkowiak. A former NBA player and coach, he averaged more than 8 points and nearly 5 rebounds in his nine-year career. He was drafted in the second round with the 28th overall pick in 1986 by the Chicago Bulls. After the NBA, Krystkowiak coached in college and the pros, including stints with Milwaukee and Utah.
Daughter: A Penn State commit, the 6-4 junior had 484 kills (4.8 per set) last season for the 24-7 Falcons. This season, she has already dropped 49 in the first four matches for Torrey Pines. She is the No. 13 ranked player in her class according to Prep Dig and No. 5 in California.
Samantha Krystkowiak, Torrey Pines
Father: Larry Krystkowiak.
Daughter: Finley's twin sister is a Stanford beach volleyball commit who had 42 kills last season for the indoor squad. She has pounded 25 kills this season in 14 sets.
Naomi Livings, Prestonwood Christian (Plano, Texas)
Father: Nate Livings. A BCS National Champion with LSU in 2003, the guard played six seasons in the NFL with the Bengals and Cowboys.
Daughter: As a freshman, she hammered 82 kills in 49 sets on a Lions team that played a grueling national schedule. Prestonwood Christian is No. 1 in the MaxPreps Top 25 having started as the preseason top pick and beginning with a 16-1 mark.
Nyla Livings, Prestonwood Christian
Father: Nate Livings.
Daughter: Twin sister of Naomi, she had 169 kills last season for the Lions. It was fourth-best on a stacked squad that finished 36-4 and No. 4 in the final MaxPreps Top 25. She also had 70 blocks.
Hanna McGinest, Sierra Canyon
Father: Willie McGinest. The three-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots spent 12 seasons in the NFL finishing his career in Cleveland. He went to Long Beach Poly and USC before being drafted No. 4 overall in 1994.
Daughter: As a freshman, she posted 279 kills (second-best on the team) as the Trailblazers went 34-9 and finished No. 48 in the expanded end-of-season rankings. Sierra Canyon is 9-0 to begin 2024 and McGinest shows no signs of the sophomore slump, dropping 103 kills thus far in 25 sets.
Laycee McGrady, Fort Bend Christian Academy (Sugar Land, Texas)
Father: Tracy McGrady. The 1997 McDonald's All American went directly to the NBA after high school, spending 16 years in the association. He's a seven-time All-Star, two-time scoring champion who finished with 18,381 points.
Daughter: Just a sophomore, she's pounded 55 kills in 46 sets for the 27-3 Eagles as they look to get back to the TAPPS 5A championship game.
Marlo and Monroe McGwire, Corona del Mar (Newport Beach, Calif.)
Father: Mark McGwire
Daughters: On the Sea Kings' freshman squad, Marlo and Monroe are two in a set of triplets along with Monet born in 2010.
Amanda Prior, Academy of Our Lady of Peace (San Diego, Calif.)
Father: Mark Prior. A four-year Major League veteran, he spent his entire career with the Chicago Cubs. He was 42-29 with a 3.51 ERA and 757 strikeouts and won a World Series in 2020. He is now a coach with the Los Angele Dodgers.
Daughter: No stats are available for the junior, but Hudl highlights show her ability to bring the hammer down.
Caitlin Prior, Academy of Our Lady of Peace
Father: Mark Prior.
Daughter: The 5-7 junior setter had helped the Pilots to a 26-9 record in the San Diego Section. She also plays club for Coast Volleyball.
Macaria Spears, Prestonwood Christian
Father: Marcus Spears. A defensive end who spent eight seasons in the NFL with the Cowboys and Ravens, he has become a commentator on ESPN after first becoming co-host of SEC Nation in 2014. He had 236 career tackles and 10 sacks.
Daughter: A MaxPreps Preseason All-American, the Texas commit is leading the Lions in their quest for a TAPPS 6A three-peat. She earned MVP honors last week at Volleypalooza and led Prestonwood last season with 284 kills.
Addie Stinchcomb, Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross, Ga.)
Father: Matt Stinchcomb. The offensive tackle was the 18th pick overall in 1999 by the Oakland Raiders and played six seasons in the NFL. He was a two-time All-American at Georgia and his brother Jon also played for the Bulldogs as well as in the NFL with the Saints.
Daughter: The senior setter tallied 965 kills last season for the 34-8 Spartans who finished as the AAAAA runner-up. This year, she has already tossed up 110 assists in 30 sets as GAC is off to a 9-8 start.
Ally Weathers, Loretto (Tenn.)
Father: David Weathers. A pitcher who was part of the New York Yankees' 1996 World Series team, he spent 18 years in the Major Leagues. He was 72-88 with a 4.25 ERA and 976 strikeouts in his career. His son Ryan was a first-round draft pick by the Padres in 2018 and is now on the Marlins.
Daughter: The Mustangs are 12-1 to start the 2024 season and she has already pounded 93 kills. As a junior in 2023, Weathers led Loretto with 493 kills as her squad finished runner-up in the Division I Class A. She also leads Loretto with 50 blocks and has added 381 digs and 399 receives. Led the Loretto basketball team by averaging 19.6 points per game last year.
Lailaa Williams, Campbell Hall
Father: Shelden Williams. The nine-year NBA veteran was the fifth overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He played collegiately at Duke and is the school's all-time leader in blocked shots and rebounds.
Mother: Candace Parker. Regarded as one of the greatest WNBA players of all-time, she is a two-time champion, Finals MVP and two-time league MVP. She was the first overall pick in 2008 after playing her college ball at Tennessee.
Daughter: The sophomore looks to help a Vikings squad that won the Division II state title but lost a lot to graduation. Last year, she had 84 kills in 77 sets.
Maya Witherspoon, Lafayette (Wildwood, Mo.)
Father: Will Witherspoon. Former NFL linebacker while her mother, Rebecca, is a former standout Division I volleyball player for the University of Georgia.
Daughter: As junior last season, she had 435 kills in 100 sets while leading the 36-2 Lancers to the Class 5 state title.
Shaye Witherspoon, Lafayette
Father: Will Witherspoon.
Daughter: Leads the Lancers early on in kills with 22 in four sets. Last season, she teamed with Maya and pounded 252 kills.
