Celina Can’t Survive Dainger(field), Streak Ends
Two major streaks were erased thanks to an 18-point flurry in the second quarter by visiting Daingerfield. Daingerfield held on for a 28-20 victory over Celina to hand the Bobcats its first home loss in a decade and at the same time, snapping Celina’s 45-game winning streak.
Tyler Boyd got the visitors on the scoreboard first with a 40-yard run to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead. Celina’s Troy McCartney, who rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns in the loss, would score on a 5-yard run to put the hosts on the scoreboard to tie the game at seven.
In the second quarter, the Tigers embarked on a scoring explosion. Julius Hurndon returned a fumble 45 yards to pay dirt to give Daingerfield the lead. The Tigers would add to the lead with two Koko Smith touchdowns runs of 64 and 4 yards as the Tigers took a 25-7 halftime lead.
Celina’s Austin Carey led the comeback with a 9-yard run before Daingerfield responded with a 27-yard field goal. McCartney scored his second touchdown in the fourth quarter from 1-yard, but it wasn’t enough for the Bobcats.
Week 2 Lone Star of the Week
Zach Bailey, Brownsboro – Bailey played the role of hero while leading Brownsboro to a 3-0 start with a 48-40 victory over Spring Hill. Bailey threw for 344 yards and three touchdowns and added 75 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Brownsboro held off a furious fourth quarter rally by Spring Hill. Brownsboro rolled to 544 total yards in the win.

Shawn Baldwin, Eustace – Baldwin’s performance was very brave in a 44-42 loss to Edgewood. On the day of his mother’s funeral, Baldwin rushed for 226 yards and five touchdowns on 35 carries. Baldwin hit paydirt on a pair of 1-yard runs and three others from 48, 17, and 5 yards in a losing effort.
Blaze Blackburn, Bosqueville – Blackburn had an outstanding night through the air, completing 17-of-21 passes for 390 yards and five touchdowns. Blackburn also added a rushing touchdown in the 56-21 victory over Hubbard.
Ted Burns, Pittsburg – Burns averaged 17.4 yards per carry in a 37-7 rout of Princeton. Burns rushed for 296 yards and scored three rushing touchdowns from 76, 32, and 21 yards in the win.
Aaron Doyle, Evant – Doyle completed 13-of-19 through the air in a 50-0 victory over Waco Texas Christian. Doyle threw for 287 yards and six touchdowns. Doyle also added 81 rushing yards and a touchdown and scored a two-point conversion in three different ways.
Desmond Guy, Itasca – In a 64-0 victory over Dallas Gateway, Guy rushed for 188 yards and five touchdowns. Guy, who had rushed for over 200 yards in his first two games, rushed for three first quarter touchdowns as the Wampus Cats took control with a 28-0 lead.
Mike Hicks, China Spring – In a 38-7 victory over Robinson, Hicks put on an All-State level display. Hicks caught five passes for 188 yards and a touchdown, returned a kickoff 92 yards for six, and had an interception in the victory for No. 5 China Springs.
Jared Hudson, Mason – In a 65-13 victory over Johnson City, Hudson rushed for a 1-yard touchdown to start his scoring spree before adding runs of 52 and 32 yards. Hudson added a 52-yard punt return for a fourth touchdown. Mason led 52-0 at halftime in the victory. Hudson finished with 200 rushing yards on 15 carries.
Weston Jameson, Edgewood – Last week’s Lone Star of the Week had another top-notch performance in Edgewood’s 44-42 victory over Eustace. Jameson completed 21-of-24 through the air for 349 yards and four scores. Jameson also inflicted damage on the ground, adding two rushing touchdowns on 75 rushing yards.
Cardarien Lewis, Gladewater – In a 26-6 victory over Rusk, Lewis did all of his dirty work between the tackles. Lewis rushed for a workmanlike 282 yards on 29 grueling carries, scoring one touchdown.
Clayton Maples, Llano – Make no mistake, Llano likes to run the football. The Yellowjackets attempted one pass in a 51-48 victory over Bandera and rushed for 506 yards on 58 carries in the victory. Maples toted the ball 25 times and led Llano with 267 yards and three touchdowns.
Hunter McPherson, Redwater – McPherson made the most of his nine carries in a 20-13 win over Dierks (Ark.). McPherson dazzled those in attendance by rushing for 274 yards and three touchdowns. McPherson’s three visits to the end zone covered 93, 68, and 52 yards.
Carl Moore, Daingerfield – In Daingerfield’s huge upset victory over Celina, Moore was unblockable. Moore recorded 19 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles, and a sack in the victory that ended Celina’s winning streak at 45 games.
Traylon Shead, Cayuga – In a 43-20 victory over Dawson, Shead had another outstanding performance. Shead rushed for 324 yards on 22 carries and scored five touchdowns. Shead scored on runs of 39, 1, 21, 1, and 96 yards in the victory.
Tyler Sharpe, Van – In a 44-21 triumph over Palestine, Sharpe was on the mark. The signal caller completed 17-of-28 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns. Sharpe added a pair of short touchdown runs in the win.
Detrick Smith, Frankston – In a 21-7 victory over Quitman, Smith rushed for 230 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Indians to their first win of 2008.
Dusty Turner, Liberty Hill – For top-ranked Liberty Hill, Turner rushed for 239 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries in a 49-7 victory over Manor. Turner scored on runs of 33, 33, and 18 yards to lead the rout.
