The ninth-annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the National Guard has escaped the polar vortex and headed to sunny South Florida to make its next stop at
Washington (Miami). Booker T. Washington High School held a special pep assembly to honor the football team as it was ranked No. 1 in the nation out of more than 16,000 teams by the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Rankings.
The pep assembly started promptly at 9 a.m. in the school auditorium. The band started off the assembly with some rousing tunes while the cheerleaders and dance team put on a great show. The presentation began with the distinguished principal of Booker T. Washington saying a few words. After a brief introduction, Stephen Spiewak, National Football Editor of MaxPreps took to the microphone. He complimented the team on its outstanding achievements for the 2013 season and announced its No. 1 ranking in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Rankings. The crowd roared with excitement at the announcement!
Spiewak then asked SFC Daniel Taylor of the Florida Army National Guard to the stage for the trophy presentation. SFC Taylor spoke about the team's commitment to one another and how it takes hard work, determination and perseverance to become national champions. SFC Taylor asked Coach Tim "Ice" Harris to come up to the stage to accept the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Coach Harris thanked MaxPreps and the Florida National Guard for the amazing accolade. The crowd cheered and chanted "Booker T, Booker T!"
The band commenced with singing a school song called "I am so happy, I am from Booker T." and the crowd sang along loud and proud. The passion of this community very apparent and I am confident the Tour of Champions will be back again in the future! Congratulations to the Booker T. Washington football team on an outstanding season!
