The high school football season in Louisiana will come to a close
Dec. 26-29 with state championship games in nine classifications set to
be played at Turpin Stadium on the campus of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.
Seven teams will carry unbeaten records into their final game, including the Division II matchup between St. Thomas More (9-0) and De La Salle (10-0).
St. Thomas More, the No. 1 team in the
MaxPreps Louisiana state rankings, is one of six teams attempting to repeat as champions. The others are Acadiana (5A), Edna Karr (4A), Oak Grove (1A), Lafayette Christian Academy (Division III) and Ouachita Christian (DIV).
Lafayette Christian Academy (9-1) not only is trying to repeat, but it goes after a fourth consecutive championship when it takes on St. Charles Catholic (8-2). LCA defeated top seed Newman (New Orleans) 21-7 in a semifinal game on Dec. 12,
thwarting the Greenies attempt at a first state-championship appearance.
Other unbeaten squads heading into title games are Alexandria (8-0), Union Parish (11-0), Many (11-0), Oak Grove (10-0) and Byrd (10-0).
The 39th Louisiana High School Athletic Association Prep Classic
was moved from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for only the second time in
history because of crowd restrictions due to COVID-19. The 15,500-seat
Turpin Stadium will create a more intimate setting for the 2020 games.
The only other break from the Superdome was in 2005 due to damage from
Hurricane Katrina.
Check back beginning Saturday for live scores and updates.
