Video: Top 25 high school football rankings St. John Bosco stays at No. 2 despite loss to No. 1 Mater Dei.
The biggest game of the year thus far was played last week as No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) beat Trinity League rival St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 38-24.
It was the first game that featured the top two rated quarterbacks during the modern recruiting rankings era (since 1999) and both put on a show. The Monarchs'
Bryce Young accounted for 329 yards and five touchdowns while the Braves'
DJ Uiagalelei threw for over 300 yards and two scores.
Despite the loss St. John Bosco stays at No. 2 and if either team runs the table the rest of the way they will be the national champion in 2019. This was the toughest game the Monarchs' have been in this season and expect the rematch (if it happens) in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship to be an even closer game.
There was no movement in this week's rankings.
All Top 25 teams in action that didn't play against Mater Dei won by double digits, and one of the most impressive wins was No. 9 North Shore (Houston) handing West Brook (Beaumont) its first loss of the season. The Mustangs cruised to a 54-25 behind strong performances from 5-star running back

No. 5 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) continues to impress in 2019 as the Raiders posted their fourth shutout of the season and are 8-0. They've won 17 of its last 18 games and the only loss came in last year's 7A state championship against No. 7 Lakeland (Fla.).
The Dreadnaughts enter the postseason winners of 25 straight and they have won all of those games by double digits.
