The Monarchs left no doubt as to the top team in the land, holding the reigning MaxPreps National Champions to under 100 yards of total offense until late in the contest and snapping their 27-game win streak.

Jordon Davison bullied his way to close to 100 yards and two touchdowns as the Monarchs beat the Gaels for the fourth time in four tries.
Beierly, a Washington commit, was 11 of 13 for more than 100 yards and a touchdown. He engineered two first-quarter scoring drives as the Monarchs took a 14-0 lead and looked in control throughout the game. Chris Henry Jr. Davison ran for 17 yards and a score in the first half and added a 23-yard touchdown run on Mater Dei's first possession of the second half. Mater Dei kicked a field goal on its first possession of the second half and added a fourth-quarter

The only blemish on the night for the Monarchs was more than 100 penalty yards.
The Gaels hopped on the back of
Jonathan Coar offensively for their score in the second quarter. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound back ran for 35 yards on the 10-play, 70-yard scoring drive late in the half to cut the lead to 14-7. The Gaels added a late score after the game had been decided.
The Monarchs are 4-0 against Gorman and 5-3 in No. 1 vs. No. 2 games since 2017. The only team to beat the Monarchs during that span is Trinity League rival
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.).
Mater Dei and Bishop Gorman met in a No. 1 vs. 2 showdown in 2017 with the Monarchs pulling off a 35-21 victory that snapped the Gaels' 55-game win streak. In that game, J.T. Daniels threw for 313 yards and two scores.
Bishop Gorman is now 42-3 under coach Brent Browner since 2020. The victory was the first marquee win for first-year Mater Dei coach Raul Lara, who coached for years at Long Beach Poly.
The possibility of another No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown exists when Mater Dei meets Bosco on Oct. 25.
