In Las Vegas for the Pac-12 Conference Tournament, Sean Miller and Arizona received a commitment Thursday from promising Class of 2018 forward
Emmanuel Akot of
Wasatch Academy (Mt. Pleasant, Utah).
A native of Winnipeg, Canada, the 6-foot-7 junior is regarded as a Top 20 prospect by 247Sports. He's averaging over 16 points per game this season for Wasatch Academy, which is 23-4 playing against a tough national schedule that has included Chino Hills (Calif.), Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) and IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.).
Akot represented Canada at last summer's FIBA U17 World Championship in Spain, averaging 9.9 points per outing. He had a tournament-best 15 points, five rebounds and three steals in a group phase win over China.
As a sophomore, Akot played a role for a 29-4 Tigers team that reached Dick's Sporting Goods High School Nationals in New York City.
Akot picked the Wildcats over offers from programs like Louisville, Oregon and Utah.
He took to Twitter on Thursday to make his decision.
The pledge is Arizona's first in the Class of 2018. Miller has hauled in a Top 10 recruiting class each of the last four years in Tucson.
