On Tuesday, Dec. 8 the
Edmond North Huskies kicked off the 11th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its sixth year recognizing girls volleyball. The team is only one of 10 volleyball programs being honored.
The Huskies beat Jenks High School 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-19, 25-12) to claim their first state title in school history. Edmond North finished their season with a 32-1 record and is currently ranked No. 82 in the nation out of more than 20,000 girls volleyball programs.

The students and fans joined the Huskies as they were recognized during a school assembly. Head coach Kimo Aweau and his team were very excited to receive this honor and gain recognition for their great season.
Over 2,500 students poured into their gymnasium to attend the assembly to join the celebration. Athletic director Tom Snider introduced MaxPreps representative Jeremy Tims, who gave a brief explanation of the MaxPreps Computer Rankings and the Tour of Champions.
Once finished, Staff Sergeant Arron Trammell of the Oklahoma Army National Guard took center court to present the prestigious Army National Guard national ranking trophy. The students showed their support and began chanting, "USA!" at the top of their lungs.
SSG Trammell then proceeded to talk about resilience and tied it directly into the team. He praised the team's ability to bounce back after its only loss to end up winning its last 26 games, along with a state title.
Once he made the trophy presentation, coach Aweau passed the Minuteman trophy to the team and they proudly hoisted it high in the air. Coach Aweau said a few words of gratitude and allowed his team to revel in the moment.
Edmond North celebrated with excitement because, in addition to their state title and national ranking, they earned national recognition from the MaxPreps Tour of Champions. Congratulations Huskies!
