Oil City (Pa.) running back
Ethen Knox is going to be tough to catch in the chase for the the top spot on the national high school football rushing yardage leaderboard. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound junior leads the nation with 2,007 yards through five games after running for over 400 yards in each of his team's last four contests.
Knox is coming off a 48-carry, 432-yard performance over the weekend against Northwestern in a 21-20 loss. Two weeks earlier, he recorded a season-high 445 yards in a 52-20 win over North East. According to Kevin Askeland of MaxPreps, he is the first running back in high school football history to reach the 2,000-yard mark in five games.
White County (Sparta, Tenn.) running back
Malaki Dowell sits second this week after running for 1,834 yards and 26 touchdowns during a 5-1 start. Dowell has put together three 300-yard performances, including a 472-yard and seven touchdown outburst on 34 carries during a 59-54 win in early September.
Jayden Mason of
Calvary Christian (Columbus, Ga.) is headed for a 2,000-yard campaign after running for 1,704 and 23 scores on 203 carries during a 4-2 start for the Knights. Two weeks ago in a 52-44 win over Lanier Christian Academy, Mason carried 61 times for 389 yards and seven touchdowns.
