Last week we unveiled an initial list of 2017 Mr. Football candidates. This week we supply updates on those players and add some names to the list.

Whoever the 31st annual winner is, their name will join a long list of Ohio prep legends. Former Ohio Mr. Football winners include Charles Woodson (1994), Maurice Clarett (2001), Mitch Trubisky (2012), Andy Katzenmoyer (1995), Curtis Enis (1993), Bobby Hoying (1990) and Robert Smith (1988-89). The list is legit.

2017 Mr. Football Contenders

* Daniel Bangura, Harvest Prep (Canal Winchester), RB
Senior did not play in a 46-8 win over Grove City Christian. Still has 2,451 yards this season on 204 carries (12 yard average). Has scored 27 touchdowns and run for 10 two-point conversions (182 points).

* Isaiah Bowser, Sidney, RB
Senior and Northwestern recruit was held to a season-low 68 yards on 24 carries as the Yellow jackets lost for the first time this season – 48-21 to Troy. Has 1,968 yards and 21 touchdowns on 247 carries. Also has three touchdown receptions.

* Jay Volpenhein, Anderson (Cincinnati), QB
Senior accounted for seven touchdowns and 540 yards in 58-16 win over Turpin. Completed 29-of-37 passes for 377 yards and four touchdowns and ran the ball 15 times for 163 yards and three touchdowns. Has thrown for 2,782 yards and 26 touchdowns and rushed for 792 yards and 13 touchdowns for undefeated Redskins. His 72 career touchdown passes ranks 38th all-time in Ohio.

* Ra'veion Hargrove, Trotwood-Madison, RB
Senior and Bowling Green recruit carried the ball 10 times for 228 yards (22.8 yards per carry average) and three touchdowns in a 67-0 win over Stebbins. Also caught a 29-yard touchdowns pass. Has rushed for 1,326 yards and 19 touchdowns on 96 carries. Averaging 13.8 yards per tote for the undefeated Rams. Has 22 total touchdowns. His career totals in rushing touchdowns (82) and total touchdowns (87) rank 15th and 23rd all-time in Ohio history.

* Joey Baughman, Wadsworth, QB
Senior threw five touchdown passes, ran for a touchdown and threw for two 2-point conversions as the Grizzlies stayed unbeaten with a 54-20 win over Twinsburg. Also became the ninth player in Medina County history to throw for over 2,000 yards in a season in the win. Has accounted for 37 touchdowns this season.

* KJ Price, London, RB
Junior ran for 168 yards as the Red Raiders lost their first game 27-23 to Ready. Has 1,952 yards on 191 carries and 21 touchdowns.

* Chase Wolf, St. Xavier (Cincinnati), QB
Senior and Wisconsin recruit completed 13-of-17 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns in a 47-14 win over Clarkson (Ontario). Has thrown for 1,492 yards and 18 touchdowns (versus one interception) for undefeated Bombers.

* Keagan Armitage, Ashland, QB
Senior is coming off a four-touchdown performance (three passing, one rushing) in a 40-0 win over Lexington. The Arrows improved to 7-1. Has completed 109-of-161 passes for 1,691 yards and 19 touchdowns and has rushed for 587 yards and nine touchdowns.

* Zane Reis, Barberton, QB
Senior completed 15-of-19 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns as the Magics remained unbeaten with a 34-3 win over Tallmadge. Has completed 103-of-138 passes for 1,533 yards, 20 touchdowns and zero interceptions this season. His 67-career touchdown passes rank 46th all-time in Ohio.

Newcomers

* Mark Waid, Girard, QB
Junior completed 12-of-23 passes for 420 yards and six touchdowns in a 66-6 win over Newton Falls. Has thrown for 2,210 yards, 25 touchdowns and just two interceptions for the undefeated Indians. Has also rushed for 831 yards and 14 touchdowns.

* Rashad McKee, Wayne (Huber Heights), QB
Junior is coming off five-touchdown performance (three passing, two rushing) in a 35-28 win over Fairmont. Connected with Ohio State-bound senior receiver L’Christian ‘Blue’ Smith for game-winning score on a 39-yard pass with 14.6 seconds left. Has thrown for 1,983 yards and 17 touchdowns and rushed for 470 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. Wayne is 6-2.

* Jayden Cunningham, University School (Hunting Valley), QB
Senior and Youngstown State recruit is coming off a four-touchdown performance (two rushing, two passing) in a 31-14 win over Ashtabula Lakeside. Has thrown for 1,298 yards and 16 touchdowns and rushed for 781 yards and nine touchdowns. US is 6-2.

* Tadas Tatarunas, Mentor, QB
Senior overcame four interceptions last week to lead the Cardinals to a 38-34 win over Solon. Completed 30-of-46 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns, including the 10-yard game-winner to Logan Shea with 43 seconds left. Mentor is currently 7-1. Has thrown for 1,933 yards and 19 touchdowns this season. Has also rushed for four touchdowns. Recently surpassed former Mr. Ohio winner Bart Tanski on the Mentor all-time passing and scoring list. Is second on both lists to former Mr. Football winner and current Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Currently has 6,580 career passing yards and 59 touchdown passes.

* Godwin Joe, Brush (Lyndhurst), QB
Connected on a touchdown and the ensuing game-winning two-point conversion pass with Donovan Johnson with three minutes left as the Arcs improved to 6-2 with a 21-20 win over Chardon. Has thrown for 2,014 yards and 24 TDs. Also has over 500 yards rushing.
