
Archbishop Mitty rallied for two huge victories last week, and the team was rewarded with the No. 2 spot in this week's rankings.

For the fourth-straight week, Bishop Moore (Orlando, Fla.) remained atop the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Volleyball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.
The Hornets won their District title with a 3-1 win over 19-5 Lake Highland Prep (Orlando, Fla.) and will move on to regional play meeting West Shore (Melbourne, Fla.) on Tuesday.
Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.), swept the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions and in the process defeated nationally ranked Torrey Pines (San Diego) and Marymount (Los Angeles). The Monarchs were down in each set before rallying to win behind Tournament MVP

The Monarchs' showing was impressive enough to move them from No. 5 to No. 2, leaping over Papillion LaVista-South, which continued to play exceptional volleyball with six wins in the last week. The Titans have won 22 straight since losing on Sept. 26.

Torrey Pines lost twice in Santa Barbara and fell from No. 3 to No. 22 in this week's poll.
Falling out of the Top 10 (and Top 25) was Barnstable (Hyannis, Mass.), which saw its 37-match winning streak snapped by 16-1 Newton North. Newton North's lone loss is to Lincoln-Sudbury (Sudbury, Mass.), which moved into the No. 25 spot with its 15-0 record.
Two teams, St. Ursula Academy (Toledo, Ohio) and Yorktown (Ind.), ranked earlier in the season, returned to the Top 25. St. Ursula has won 15 straight and opens state tournament play on Friday against 21-3 Findlay (Ohio). Yorktown has reeled off 28 straight wins and will meet Bishop Chatard (Indianapolis) Saturday in the Indiana 3A State Championship.

(5) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.), 29-0Archbishop earned some bragging rights for Northern California by bumping off Torrey Pines and Marymount to win the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions. In improving their season record to 29-0, the Monarchs have won 74 of 80 games this season. They compete in their league tournament this weekend.
3. (2) Papillion-LaVista South (Papillion, Neb.), 36-1The Titans haven't looked back since losing to Assumption on Sept. 26. They have won 22 straight. The Titans routed 35-4 Marian, 3-0, and ran through districts with five-straight 2-0 wins to improve to 36-1.
4. (4) Assumption (Louisville, Ky.), 41-2By defeating Louisville rival Mercy (33-10) on Saturday night, the Rockets finished their 2012 season with their third consecutive state title.
Taylor Paulson had 17 kills, and
Alexa Filley added 41 assists and 17 digs and earned tournament MVP honors for the Rockets. For seniors Paulson,
Kaelin Grimes and
London Ackermann, the victory capped the end of a remarkable three-year run – three state titles and a combined record of 121-7.
5. (6) Lafayette (Wildwood, Mo.), 37-0The Lancers opened state tournament bracket play with a pair of victories to continue their amazing run of not having lost a single game this season. With wins over St. Joseph's Academy (St. Louis) and Lindbergh (St. Louis), the Lancers have won all 74 games this season. Up next is 31-5 Howell (St. Charles).
6. (7) Mount Notre Dame (Cincinnati), 25-0MND opened postseason play with a trip of 3-0 wins to improve to 25-0. The Cougars have won 68 of 75 games in 2012 and open state tournament play against 22-2 Lakota East (Liberty) on Thursday.
7. (8) Doherty (Colorado Springs, Colo.), 23-0The Spartans won the Cheyenne Mountain Tournament with four wins, including 3-1 over the hosts (19-4). The Spartans, who have won 64 of 68 games this season, begin postseason play this weekend.
8. (9) Carmel (Ind.), 39-1The Greyhounds have won 17 straight since their only loss this season back in mid-September. They play 33-5 Avon for the state 4A championship Saturday night. Carmel beat Avon on Aug. 21.
9. (11) Lakeville North (Minn.), 27-1 After defeating Kennedy on Oct. 25th, The Panthers meet 19-9 Eastview on Tuesday in the district semifinals.
10. (13) Carroll (Southlake, Texas), 43-3The Dragons have won 28 straight matches as they move into district play on Tuesday night. During that streak, they have lost just two games.
11. (12) Punahou (Honolulu), 14-1The Blue and Gold open state tournament play on Wednesday.
12. (16) Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, Calif.), 32-3The Sea Hawks have won 26 straight since losing to Torrey Pines on Sept. 15. They beat Long Beach Poly to win the Redondo Union Power Classic last weekend. They visit 18-10 Mira Costa on Tuesday.
13. (14) Horizon (Scottsdale, Ariz.), 39-3The Huskies easily handled three opponents last week and beat 22-8 Centennial (Peoria), 3-0, on Senior Night. They host 21-5 Kofa (Yuma) on Tuesday.
14. (15) Reagan (San Antonio), 39-2The Rattlers went unbeaten in 5A Region IV District 26 league competition and have 25-straight matches as they enter district play on Tuesday.

15. (17) Coppell (Texas), 40-3The Cowgirls are 40-3 after their 10th straight win. They open district play against 23-17 Grapevine on Tuesday.
16. (22) Leesville Road (Raleigh, N.C.) 26-0With wins over 19-5 Riverside, 18-5 Apex, and 20-5 Wakefield, the Pride remained unbeaten at 26-0 and moves into the state semi-finals against 20-6 Hoggard on Tuesday.
17. (21) Benet Academy (Lisle, Ill.), 31-2Since back-to-back losses three weeks ago, Benet has won 20 matches and lost just one game in that span. The Redwings take on Aurora West on Tuesday in the section semifinals.
18. (24) Clarkston (Mich.), 20-1Clarkston defeated Adams, 3-0, and Lake Orion, 3-2. District 30 play begins on Tuesday with Clarkston facing Rochester Adams.
19. (NR) St. Ursula Academy (Toledo, Ohio), 21-1Returns to Top 25 with its 15th straight match win to improve to 21-1. SUA defeated Notre Dame last weekend and opens state tournament on Friday against 21-3 Findlay.
20. (20) Marymount (Los Angeles) 21-5Marymount ran its win streak to 14 before losing to Archbishop Mitty in the finals of the Santa Barbara Tournament. The Sailors host Immaculate Heart (Los Angeles) on Tuesday, then Harvard-Westlake (North Hollywood) on Wednesday.

21. (23) St. Francis (Sacramento, Calif.), 30-2Since losing for a second time to Archbishop Mitty on Oct. 13, St. Francis has won four straight. The Troubadours host 21-15 Oak Ridge (El Dorado) on Tuesday.
22. (3) Torrey Pines (San Diego), 24-4Torrey Pines has lost three times in tournament play the last two weeks, dropping matches to Archbishop Mitty (3-1) and Corona Del Mar (3-2). Mitty, however, is unbeaten and CDM is 25-6. TP hosts 21-8 rival Canyon Crest (San Diego) Wednesday and visits 21-11 Westview (San Diego) on Friday.
23. (19) New Trier (Winnetka, Ill.) 29-1The Trevians lost to 20-16 Lyons (LaGrange), 2-1, but rebounded with wins over Prosser (Chicago) and Main South (Park Ridge).
24. (NR) Yorktown (Ind.), 31-3 Won its 28th straight game over 35-2 Fairfield and will meet 32-7 Bishop Chatard (Indianapolis) in the state 3A championship game on Saturday.
25. (NR) Lincoln-Sudbury (Sudbury, Mass.), 15-0The Warriors defeated three strong teams impressively - all 3-0 - to remain unbeaten. They have lost just one game in 15 matches this season and that was in a 3-1 win over their next opponent (11-5 Brookline). The Warriors also own a 3-0 win over 16-1 Newton North, a team that ended previous No. 10 Barnstable's 37-match winning streak. A rematch with Newton North is slated for Wednesday.
