Charlie Woods, son of Tiger Woods, shot a 154 (78-76) to help
Benjamin (Palm Beach Gardens) win the Division I golf state championship Wednesday in Florida.
The 14-year-old Woods finished tied for 26th as the Buccaneers finished with a team score of 602, one shot clear of First Academy.
The son of the 15-time Major winner is no stranger to limelight golf having played with Tiger in the PNC Championship and most recently tying for 17th in the Notah Begay III Boys Junior Golf National Championship.
Earlier this school year, Woods earned medalist honors at the two-day West Coast High School Tournament hosted by the South Florida PGA Junior Tour. Benjamin also captured the team title at that event.
Unlike those competitions, however, Tiger wasn't on the bag for Charlie. But his famous father, donned in all black rather than his famous Sunday red, watched as a spectator as Benjamin School's Jack Valentine posted his 148 (72-76) that edged First Academy. It was the fourth state title for the school.
Tiger Woods played high school golf at
Western (Anaheim, Calif.) and though the CIF didn't have a state tournament at the time, he won the Southern Section individual title three times in 1991, 1993 and 1994. As high school sophomore, he made his first PGA appearance playing in the 1992 Los Angeles Open at Riviera.
