High school football rankings: DeSoto rises to No. 7 in MaxPreps Top 25 after win over Duncanville

DeSoto (Texas) improves six spots to No. 7 in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings after a 49-35 win over Duncanville's (Texas), getting the first win over its district rival since 2016.

Duncanville had won 22 games in a row and allowed just 26 total points through its first seven games this season.

Senior quarterback D.J. Bailey of DeSoto completed 17 of 23 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns. Daylon Singleton scored a 76-yard touchdown on the first play of the game and then returned a kickoff from 95 yards out to give the Eagles a 14-3 lead in the opening quarter. He finished with six receptions for 179 yards and two scores. Keylan Abrams wreaked havoc coming off the edge and Makali McKellar made a huge impact on defense forcing two fumbles.

The loss dropped Duncanville 10 spots to No. 16.

North Shore (Houston) is now the highest-ranked team from the Lone Star State at No. 6. The Mustangs handed Atascocita (Humble) its first loss of the season, 61-35. Junior quarterback Kaleb Bailey accounted for five touchdowns with three going to Terrence Guillory II. Five-star cornerback Devin Sanchez added a 36-yard interception return for a TD.

The biggest game this week is going down in Arizona as No. 23 Centennial (Peoria) closes out the regular season at No. 25 Liberty (Peoria). The winner will be the No. 1 seed in the AIA Open Division bracket. The Coyotes improved to 9-0 with a 31-6 win over Pinnacle (Phoenix). The Lions have won four in a row since their only loss at Centennial (Corona). They have outscored their last four opponents 197-22.

The CIF Southern Section Division 1 bracket was released on Sunday and the four teams from California ranked in the MaxPreps Top 25 are the top four seeds.

No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) opens up against San Clemente, No. 5 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) faces JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano), No. 20 Centennial (Corona) plays Orange Lutheran (Orange) and No. 22 Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) takes on Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita). All four games will be Nov. 10.

No. 1 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), No. 15 Massillon (Ohio), No. 19 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) and No. 24 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) all have postseason matchups this week.
